Title: Weird Mortal Kombat glitch

When I start my MK up, it runs through the normal rom checks, then gets to the screen where it says Midway Presents, the music starts to play, and then everything will reset back to the initial rom check screen.  However, if you have credits on the machine, and keep hitting start as Midway Presents is coming on the screen, you can play normally.  Any idea what may be causing this problem?

good to check your 5v on the jamma set to about 5.10 but check on the board side,is it a rip off mortal kombat because all of those suffered voltage and ic socket problems.

Nope, it's off...  I'll poke around in there today and test the voltages.  And no, it's not a rip-off MK, it's an original.
