Title: Help me conserve space from non-playable CHD games
Post by: unclet on January 30, 2006, 08:12:58 pm
The complete MameV103 is about 47Gigs worth of game data.   The CHDs take up most of the space of course.   I do not want to transfer all the CHD files to my game computer if they can not be played of my 3Ghz computer.

Now, I know people hesitate answering the question of "what CHD games can be played on a 3Ghz computer", because depending on the effort of overclocking, underclocking, changing frame rates, using derivative Mame builds, etc.... then various games can be played on various people's computers .... so it is really hard to answer.

.... so a simpler question (which I hope gets answered) is ..... which of the CHD games can be played on a 3Ghz computer while maintaining the default settings in official Mame v103

This will let me know which CHDs I should copy over to my game computer to help me conserve space .....

Here is the list of CHD games for Mamev103:

** I will mark the games in BOLD which should be playable and strikethrough those which are not playable.

Killer Instinct will work.  That's the only CHD games I've tried so far so that's all the help I can give at the moment...

Off the top of my head I'd say...
Area51, MaxForce, Killer Instinct, Killer Instinct 2, Hyper Athlete

I haven't tried a lot of them in a long time, but I know those ones were playable on a 1.4ghz machine back in the 0.80somehing days.

Bumping this topic, but applicable to the latest version of Mame. Any other opinions? I have never bothered with the CHD's before, but was thinking I would like to re-visit that. I am running a Sempron 3300+ and was wondering if anyone else has had any positive experience with some of the CHD games...

The NFL Blitz series will not work, without a doubt:
blitz
blitz2k
blitz99

I play simpbowl on my machine and it's closer to 2GHz.

Thanks for the reply. Anyone else?

Man, I'd really love to get the Gauntlet games going. Time to look into liquid nitrogen cooling for my cabinet so I can overclock it.

Hmmmm.. How close can I get to 0 degrees Kelvin?

If you don't get the liquid nitrogen working, Gauntlet works great on the PSX (and ePSXe emulator).  Seems pretty much just like the arcade version too, although I'm no expert on that game.

You might as well get rid of those CPS3 games off your list. Can't play them anyway...

You might as well use a console for those Gauntlet Games...cheaper than setting up an LN2 cooling rig, yet 100% FPS and 100% working.

California Speed might actually work.  It's similar to the Cruis'n series, which will run with some tweaks.
