Title: noob question about how to assemble buttons and switches...
Post by: arzoo on January 30, 2006, 07:45:42 pm
I just purchased some Happ buttons with micro switches and I'm wondering how to attach the switch to the button.  Actually, what I'm need to know is how to do it without breaking the button. On my first (and only) attempt to snap the switch into place, the small pin that fits into the switch to hold it in place broke off. The pins seem too tight to spread apart without breaking. Is there a trick to this or a special tool required? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You don't need to spread both pins apart at the same time.

The 'pins' that fit into the holes are on the "top" and the "bottom" of the one side of the switch.   You hook the pin into one of the holes and swing the switch down into place where you can hook the other pin into the other hole.

Lemme' see if I can find a picture for you so it'll make more sense

EDIT:  See if the above description along with the photo below help you figure out how to do it:

Always start with the 'short' one or 'lower' one first. Because the mount of the longer one is... well longer,  it offers more flex when you gently bend it sideways to allow the switch to pop into place.

LOL oddly enough, I was going HA THIS IS SO SIMPLE when I read the title of the thread, but then again a week or 2 ago, I got my first two buttons:  1 and 2 player.  I gotta admit, I didnt break the buttons, but it took me 3 shots to understand which way I should put them in, now its just like no problemo!

I've been doing it for years, and I still end up with the buttons upside down sometimes :/
