Title: Problem with Vision Pro 19" (49-1337-VP2) PLEASE HELP!!!
Post by: javeryh on January 30, 2006, 04:35:30 pm
I am in the testing phases for my arcade and I bought a Vision Pro arcade monitor.  I plugged it into my laptop and launched MAME and everything looked like it was running great.  I was playing Ms. Pac-man, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Arkanoid, etc. and the picture looked fantastic.

However, there are certain games that look fine on my laptop screen but give me an error message on the monitor screen.  These games include Tapper, Mortal Kombat II, Popeye and some others.  Any idea on what might be causing this?

I think the frequency is different for these games or something - I'm building a computer specifically for my cabinet - would an Arcade VGA card solve my problem?  Have any of you used this monitor to play the games I mentioned?

Any help would be most appreciated.  THANKS!!!

Not related to your question, but what kind of connection do you have from your laptop that's running the arcade monitor?  Just a hacked VGA cable?

I'm just using the 15(?) pin connector that is attached to the monitor.  It's a little blurry but this is it:

It plugs directly into my laptop with no modification whatsoever.  When I finally build my MAME computer for my cabinet I'm hoping that an Arcade VGA card will fix the problem but I'm not sure.  I'm trying to find out before buying.

Here's the monitor:

Do you have a problem running MKII, Tapper or Popeye?

Sorry, I was confused about what kind of monitor this was.  I had seen your post in the main forum and thought you had a CGA monitor.  Hence my confusion about how you were running it from your laptop.

Sorry

On the games you are having trouble with, try forcing the refresh rate to 60Hz.  If that doesn't fix it, then also force the resolution to 640x480 with hardware stretch on.

This is all easier to set quickly in MAME32.

Can I do this for each specific game or is it a global setting that will alter the look of Ms. Pac-man, Street Fighter, etc. (games that look spectacular right now)?  I'm hoping it's just a matter of adding a command to go along with each game like how I have to add a "-ror" to rotate Ms. Pacman to display vertically.  A quick search on mame.net shows a command of "-resolution 640x480" - I'll give that a try for my mkii rom and pray for the best.  Hopefully it is just a matter of tinkering around.  THANKS!!!
