hmm but the television light guncons work realy good from what i hear and i thought there was a way to interface them
-
Yes if you are using a telly then you can use most guncon2 compatible guns. There are a couple of drivers that have been written to enable this to work:

Make sure mame is using the same resolution and refresh rate as the desktop. (Or you'll need to calibrate at the different resolution each time it's changed.)

Just Curious-
Do light guns work with any kind of monitor (pc, arcade, tv)?
I know that there are USB guns made to interface with MAME, but is it possble to interface a Namco-style arcade gun with MAME?
Some gun reviews say that you can't shoot offscreen to reload, is that a monitor issue, or is it gun-specific?
Thanks-

the resolution of the desktop is 800x600 and the games are set to run at that as well i tried both stretch mode and unstretched also brightening and darkening the screen

i am using guncons connected to the pc and a television
as my podium cabinet far from finished uses a 36" crt tv.
i figured guncons are a good solution
there are guns for pc crts
and other guns for arcae monitors (lcd gun i think?)
-
The LCD guns work for basically anything that can project an image. TV, monitor, LCD projector, arcade monitor, etc etc. They also have connectors for X-box, PS/2 and PC included.
-
yeah i went with guncons anyone else have any ideas?
-
okay i got the game bang to work i think alot of things are atributing to them not working
the games have very very slight video to sound lagg (things arnt lining up) and the screen isnt bright enough forthe guns to pick up darker colors
oh well atleast i can play guncon games on my ps2 now lol
-
Did you get the orange guncons? They don't work very well. The aftermarket guncon2 works better, such as the mission lightgun. I have one of those and most games are playable, not perfect but playable.
-
yeah they are the orange ones lol they work fine on windows on a brighter setting with the tv but some of the games it loses calibration
-
those orange ones are great for ps2 but not for mame. They have some sort of rolling-x problem. You can read about rolling-x on the guncon2 driver sites. The aftermarket guns seem to work much better and do not suffer from the rolling-x problem. I have 2, one orange and one mission lightgun, the original guncon2 (orange) works like crap for mame. The crosshairs are always off from where you shoot the screen. I got my mission gun on ebay for about 25 dollars (including shipping) and it works well for most games in mame. I haven't tried it with other emulators.
Do a search about the guncon2 here and you'll find a bunch of info on what guns are good and which are bad.
-
yeah the ones i have dont give a rolling x problem when the driver program tests for it
but hey atleast i have guns for my ps2 now lol
-
when the driver program tests for it
Well, I guess you are not using Guncon2Pc drivers than (I did not write any test program) and this means you'll never get it to work with newer versions of mame ..
