$154 instead of $188. I am about to take that step.
-
Mine just arrived ... although they were supposed to be on backorder until Feb 16 (I ordered back in December) ...
Get 'em while they're hot.
Cheers.
-
Grabbed mine last week. $155 plus tax 'n shipping. Almost (had to jury rig the old bezel onto the Happ) perfectly replaced the 25 year old Electrohome G07 that was in my arcade cabinet. Now I just have to rip out the pc and upgrade the HD to accept all the new roms I just received.
-
What did they charge for shipping (and to what state)?
I'm not in the market for a new monitor, I'm just curious since Happ's shipping rates always seem to be sky high.
-
yeah what was shipping?
-
yeah what was shipping?
Fedex Ground to Canada (took 3 days) was $52.18
-
CRAP!
-
Kortek 19" horizontal mount monitors are on sale for $155 at Penn-Ray until the end of February. They don't rape you on shipping like Happ does.
-
My understanding is that monitor shipping from Happ (to the US) has been reasonable at something like $18. Although now I can't find the posts that are evidence of that

Ken, any comments on the quality of the Happ vs the Kortek?
-
$20 for shipping. As for it being CRAP, it looks good to me.
-
I bought one a couple of weeks ago. They have 3 warehouses around the US, so you wanna tell them to ship it from the one nearest you.
I'm in Los Angeles. I ordered it on Thursday morning and received it the next day(!). It shipped from their Las Vegas warehouse. Shipping was $17.
-
I ordered mine but I wasnt billed for shipping? how does that work? transaction has also been decucted from my account............

I don't think MYX was calling the monitor crap, I believe MYX was expressing disappointment in the fact he might have to pay $52.18 for shipping.

The way that works is that they will then charge shipping to your credit card, without you knowing how much and without even your consent on the amount.
Nice huh? That's Happ for ya.
-
so in other words, a big tax'n is coming >:(

You are correct, I was not calling the monitor crap. Just the proce of shipping.
-
Just ordered one.

Can this monitor display all games using an Arcade VGA card? Like Tapper, Popeye, Mortal Kombat II, etc.?
-
Well I was just charged ground of $26.59........ the bad part is I did not get a reach around and no lube :P
I dont know.....is $185.52 a bad price? I dont kmow anything about the monitor. I just got one because I thought the price was good.
And the shipping is not that. I mean there are ebayer sellers saying shipping cost 79.99 and they are not making anything from shipping............. sure ::)
anyway who has one and/or knows anything about this monitor?
I have an xbox cab and all the needed hook ups........ but I am still clueless on the quality.
They (happs) have the Wellsgardner for 174.00.... is that a better buy?

With an AVGA card, I believe those games get displayed in "interlace" mode. They look just fine. (BTW I have a 19" Happ Vision Pro II)

Thanks! I have a Vision Pro II as well (Happs 49-1337-VP2) and it won't display the games I mentioned at all when plugged into my Dell laptop. So an AVGA card will allow me to play these games (I'm building a separate MAME computer)? Are they playable for you? How do they look?
-
Javery, the monitor we are discussing here is the CGA (standard resolution) model, on sale at $155. Not the SVGA model you have.
-
Oops. Shows you how much I know. You don't happen to know the answer to my question anyway do you? I posted in the monitor forum but no one has answered yet. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=49319.0
Any help you (or anyone) could give me would be really appreciated!

$29.72 shipping to DFW, Texas area.
-
It was my understanding that with the Arcade VGA card used in conjuntion with the Happs VP that one would be abul to play all the old games 640 x 480 and under. Am I wrong? I am about to order this thing and I also want to be able to play all these games. :-\
-
That is my understanding.

Javery: An AVGA card won't help if you have the SVGA or VGA monitor. AVGA is for CGA monitors only.

I have an xbox set up. From what I understand the CGA should play everything right that is on an xbox, momeox? And even my xbox games? I am not to sure as to what it does. But I do know mameox does not play chd files.
So which brings me to my question. Will this monitor suit my needs? And if it is playing on a tv then the games should work on the monitor as well......

I'm totally knew to this so this is more of a question than a comment but isn't their a special driver for higher res?

Thanks a lot for the answer... I didn't want to spend the money on the AVGA card only to find out it won't work. So am I screwed as far as playing MKII and the like? Is there a way to get my arcade monitor to display these games? THANK YOU!!

In the modern world yes there would be drivers for modern monitors. The AVGA card kind of forces the computer to go backwards. It makes the monitor go to smaller resolutions at lower frequencies. CGA is a step below VGA and therefore does not want to see 1120 x 768. Most games were at shockingly low resolutions. I am a graphics and video guy, so it is a little wierd to say... Lower resolution is beter. (for the clasics)

The xbox outputs either a TV signal (composite or S-Video) or a component video signal. None of which can be displayed on a CGA monitor. They do make Xbox to VGA signal converters but you will need a VGA monitor (or higher) for that; see http://www.x2vga.com/

It is my belief that the AVGA card will output a 640x480 resolution game to a CGA monitor. I'm not sure what sampling, merging, scan-doubling, etc. takes place, but I feel pretty confident that it will do it because I can run Windows at 640x480 on a CGA monitor with the AVGA card.

It's called interlace mode Mark. If you look at the image carefully you'll see a sort of "shimmering" or flicker withthe horizontal lines.

I dont think what you said is accurate. goto: http://www.ultimarc.com/xba.html
X-Box to Arcade Monitor/Speaker Adaptor
-
The X-box outputs RGB signals for SCART, I think with a circuit you can make yourself, you can get this to work on an Arcade monitor no problem.

Ah yah; totally forgot that Andy and Ultimarc have that adaptor...! Very cool! I apologize!

Yes, I have the same config (XBox wired to Jamma cab) using the entire Ultimarc Kit, and it works extremely well - it's about as 'plug-n-play' as you're going to get.
The only additional piece that you will need is an audio amp - the 'RGB Amplifier' board that Ultimarc sells has a 3.5mm stereo 'line out' jack, which you will need to pipe into an audio amp to get some sound. I simply purchased the Happ Controls Kiosk Amp for this, and it works just fine.

thx!! What kinda speakers are you running?

I have a Galaga cabinet, so I'm using the 6x9" standard speaker in the cabinet wired through the JAMMA harness to the 'left' channel of the audio amp. Even though the audio amp is stereo, I am only using the left channel, and I have set my XBox to 'mono' (in the MS Dash)
Cheers

Next question, did your monitor come with open wires or a plug (like a pc monitor) I am clueless. I bought the xbox to monitor connection but it needs a male/female plug. The Vision Pro I bought only has open wires connected to it? What do I do and/or use?
