Title: I have a ? for 1UP.
Post by: Distortion on February 11, 2003, 10:12:09 am
Hey guys, I'm new to posting on the boards, but I've been browsing them for the last week or so and have been a fan of the site for about a year.  Anyways...I have a question for 1UP.  I noticed that on your website, you mention adding a set of T2 guns to your MAME cabinet.  Is it possible to use light guns with mame, or are the T2 guns on a control to work like a joystick with a button?  I think it would be sweet if I could add light guns to my cabinet that I'll be starting next week, but I didn't think it was possible.

Act-Labs has a light gun that works with Mame and a computer monitor. They will have a gun out soon that works with a tv. To date, there is only a one player version. You can't use 2 act-labs light guns together.

1up's T2 hack uses 2 sidewinder dual strikes. It has software to be configured as either a joystick OR a mouse. I'm not positive but I think he has said in the past that it works as a mouse...

Not all guns are lightguns.  The T2 guns are POSITIONAL, which means they work like joysticks (that's why they're mounted on a base.)  This also makes it easy to hack them for PC use.

The Dual Strike software allows the guns to be used in joystick or mouse mode.  Other gamepads also have this feature.  Look at my writeup at http://www.1uparcade.com/project-swyoke.html (http://www.1uparcade.com/project-swyoke.html) (it refers to a Star Wars yoke but the hack for the T2 guns is the same.)

BTW, in the future, I'd suggest emailing me, or sending me a personal message here.  I almost missed the message (I only check the board every few days lately...)
