Title: How to convert donkey kong/dk jr to jamma?
Post by: kjoel0123 on January 25, 2006, 08:27:19 pm
Does any one know the correct procedure to convert the cabinet to jamma?

Here's what I know:

- dk board has no jamma edge connectors
- dk jr board does have edge connector
- buy a jamma to nintendo adapter for the dk jr board
- nintendo monitor is installed in unit
- already have the jamma board the switches between both games but it uses jamma connectors

Do I go jamma or stay old school and upgrade the power supply and cabling and use the nintendo connectors for the 2 boards, then my jamma converter board that switches both games will be worthless?

How do I successfully play both theses games and flip buttons to play the 2,  Idont want the mikes dk board upgrade as the sound is bad??

think this is what I will need??

- jamma power supply- dont know which to buy, I haven't seen any that will work with both boards
Anyone use www.arcadeshop.com kit?

Also having video questions since it is different than jamma?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Is this a working cabinet? There are less drastic ways to get both DK and DK Jr playing in the same cabinet.

Get this mod: http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?action=url&page=prod/ddk/ddk.html

Do the mod to the DK jr board.
Then you can sell (or store away) the DK board.

The cabinet works and tbotrh game work well. Problem is the sound issue with the mikes arcade board upgrade... Sounds like a chirping cricket...

If your DK doesn't have an edge connector, I'm presuming you have the 4-board version vs. the 2 board?  If you don't plan on playing any other JAMMA games in this cabinet, why change the wiring?  Here (http://homearcade.org/BBBB/dk.html) are some instructions on how to switch out your power supply with a switcher.

Yes I have the 4 board pcb set.Does the 2 board pcb set has a nintendo edge connector? The reason for converting the cab to jamma is that I have a 2 way jamma adapter that allows me to play 2 jamma games while pressing player 1 and player 2 buttons to switch between the 2 games. Thanks for all your assistance

Yes.  The 2-board has an edge connector as can be seen here (http://www.crazykong.com/pcbs/A%20-%20F/DonkeyKong.pcb.html).  I cannot however, verify that the pinouts are the same on both DK and DK Jr.  You may want to compair the manuals.  If they are the same, there's a guy on KLOV that's restoring a DK cocktail table that needs the 4-board version, but he has the 2-board.  I'll link him to this topic and maybe you two could do a straight trade or something.

I have the 2 board sets of DK, DK Jr. and DK 3. They all have the same pinouts and can be swapped out very esaily for one of the other boards.

These board sets have edge connectors? What type of power supply are you using for all 3, Is is jamma or nintendo? Where did you purchase the power supply from? Thanks

I have an original nintendo Dk Jr. cab so it has the nintendo power supply, and the 2 board sets have edge connectors. I believe you can buy a convertor board that changes the voltage so the board can run on a non-nintendo power supply.

I am actually using an original nintendo power supply and a dk jr board that is a 2 piece board set.

How do you supply the power to both boards?

Interesting "converter board", I will look around for this, if you find out what this is called or where to buy this from, please drop me a line, thank you

I only power one board at a time and the just pull the board and insert the other. I don't hot swap or have it set up for what you what to do. You will have to definately switch to a jamma setup to do it. I know there are conversion kit sout there I just can't recall where I saw them.

ok thanks for the tips, I will call arcadeshop.com, they seem to have a few different ways to go about it.
