Title: MAME .88 performance on 3.2GHz P4...
Post by: Sinner on January 25, 2006, 04:14:17 pm
I ran Hard Drivin and a couple of other games through MAME .88 on a P4 3.2 with 1GB of RAM...they were choppy, ran slowly, and the sound didn't sync...I played with the frame rates, but it didn't seem to fix anything...
Was there something I needed to do?
Am I under powered?

There are lots of things you might be able to do with your config, but you didn't post your mame.ini file.

But you also posted a software question in the Main Forum...time for Post Hell.

:D  okay, not so much.  I'll just move to Software.

And I think Hard Drivin' is a CPU hungry game, IIRC.

hard drivin doesnt work so good on many setups at all
you might want to close any background anythings and run an older os or use an arcade os

Was it really, only, a software question?  I did post my specs and ask if I was under powered...

Anyway, I have MAME .99 at home...I'll give that a try and see what happens...I can try another OS, but that would have to be through a VM and I'm not sure what the performance would be like...I think the VM software would be using up more CPU power than would be acceptable...

Most of the background stuff was shutdown...it's a clean image, without a lot of applications installed...

Running a VM will only make things worse, try a dual boot with another OS that should be your best option if you don't want to get rid of windows...

You still didn't post your mame.ini!
