I wish the producers of that show would agree to a 3 or 4 season deal and have the show actually end.  I have a bad feeling that it will drag on for 10 years and then get canceled.

um...dude. I agree with the 3 or 4 year idea, but I do like the show and would probably get mad if it went off at 4 years. Crap, they are canceling West Wing (still trying to cope ;))

I did notice a problem last night. Lok (lock sp?) is usually really in tune with the island / people almost to a supernatural level. Now last night he could not see into Charlies life. Why?

Well it goes to show ya, you put a Hobbit on an island for long enough, he'll turn into a drug addict.

Ya I thought that was pretty pathetic how for 1/2 of a season this guy is ranting about the island talking to him and when someone else has a dream he was just drugged up.

I like how the preview at the end of each episode is 20 seconds of people yelling and screaming.

Hey, what happened to the guy who was in the bunker originally (graham?). just takes off into the jungle with all sorts of monsters and stuff, not to mention the others (unless he was in fact one of the others). The dude would be toast by now.

At best, they are the birthdays of producers, cast members or family members. Most likely they are made up numbers, which the writers will just keep matching stuff to as the show goes on.

There is a polar bear on a tropical island, and a dinosaur wandering around. Basically the island is obviously "Magic", which means there is no point trying to guess what is going to happen on the show, since quite literally *anything* could be explained as 'it's a magic island...'.

If I am reading your post right, you are stating that these are all prime? The only prime of the bunch is 23.
2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43 ( These are the only primes between 0 and 42)

Sorry not trying to be a Uber nerd. But there is is.  ;D

I'm misunderstood again.... my engrish....

I meant that all the numbers are prime (but 4,8,15,16 and 42 - which are not). so it leaves us indeed with 23.
Just my twisted, undeveloped taste of humor. forget it.

I think the island is what became of Fantasy Island after that show got cancelled and Tattoo will be the leader of the "others."  It explains the magic on the island.

Talking of shows getting cancelled got me thinking of how other series ended.
Babylon 5 had every season written before the show even started, so they knew exactly when the series would end.  This is truely the best way to do it, but is extremely rare when it happens.  Too bad they tried to keep the money coming in by making a number of increasingly bad miniseries.

Farscape series ended on a cliffhanger, luckily the fans rallied enough to get them to make a miniseries to tie everything up.

Firefly only aired a couple episodes before failing, but its dvd release was so popular and the fans caused such commotion that they made a movie that actually did pretty good in the theaters.

Gilligans Island was cancelled after 3 seasons, but was brought back several years later for a TV movie to have them actually get off the island.

I think its better for a show to get cancelled in its prime and do a comeback to tie everything up, then for a show to stay on too long and jump the shark (happy days reference).

*mr geek comes out of closet* Ko is a state of play in the board game 'go'. a ko position implies an immediate retake of your opponents piece. there is a rule to avoid this however, which result in a ko 'battle'. i have been playing go during lunch with a guy who is kicking my arse regularly. in my defense he was taught by a master ten years ago. no doubt everyone here is aware of a more famous go position 'atari' which implies an imminent death.

Actually, the original arc of B5 was "finished" at the end of season 3, when they decided halfway through the series that they were going to cancel the show at the end of the season.  JMS then accelerated his plotlines to finish it up in half a season, rather than 2-1/2 seasons as he had planned.  Then the studion did an about-face and re-upped the show for season 4.  JMS had to come up with a new plot (the Revolution).  The studio then did a lather, rinse and repeat for Season 5. 

Having a pre-planned arc has it's benefits, but when the lifespan of the show gets called into question, it can really throw a wrench into the works.  That's the great thing about a show like 24.  Each season is self-encapsulated.  They could re-up the show for another season, or not, and it won't affect the overall arc.  I'd have loved to have seen Lost as a series of one season shows, with different "Lost" scenarios (tropical island, desert, lost at sea on a boat, etc).

More and more I'm coming on board with the "magic island" theory. At first it was fun to try and figure out what was going on and the logical explanations for everything. But the further they dig themselves with supernatural occurances (people seeing wet Walt talking backwards, magic smoke, unlucky numbers, Jack's dead dad wandering around, Locke's clairvoyance, polar bears, etc) the more difficult it will be to explain reasonably. Just look out if they introduce a new character that is a cute, precotious, smart alecky kid. That spells the end for sure. Oh crap! Next season the baby will probably be like 8 years old or something with no explanation whatsoever.
