Hi everyone,
I have my Mame cabinet all good to go but I have a problem with the computer. I bought a second hand IBM about a year and a half ago (P3 windows 98) and the sound seemed ok except for on games that played in stereo. I didn't really care all that much and the just chalked it up to a buggy version of Mame.
I have since re-installed the latest Mame version (which works great by the way) and transferred some MP3's over. Now I notice that there's no sound coming out of the right side when I move the balance all the way to the left. When I move the balance over to the middle sound comes out of both speakers but I'm missing some sound. This is because the right "side" of the songs seem to be missing. So some songs that have certain sounds that come out of the right side (ie. are you gonna go my way) sound really strange.
Can you tell me if this might be a hardware problem, a soundcard problem or a config problem? The speakers are fine, I've tested them already as is the amplifier. Is it possible my IBM is only monosound?

My first guess would be a drivers issue. Try this site:

You have to join (free) and I have yet to search for a driver and NOT find one. They've helped me out alot.
Figure out what kind of sound card you have, or if it's onbaord sound you can look-up your motherboard drivers and find one that way. Update that and then see how it goes.
It also could be to much "MAME" for your computer. What are the specs? I know on some of my older machines I have had sound probs if I run too new a version of MAME. Overtaxing the CPU and whatnot.
Keep posting it'll get narrowed down and fixed ;)
