Hi,

Just placed an order for 2 joysticks and 20 of the red buttons. Very helpful so far. Will let you all know what they are like when they arrive. Not finished my cab yet so I won't be able to hook them up straight-away.

Am I wrong to be suspicious when the person posting about the site and the person who is ordering have 4 posts between them?

I love to pull this one out of the hat.  See if you spot the similarities (you really do have to read all the way through it though).

We are a cynical bunch aren't we?????

Yes I am new, No I don't post often but have been lurking for quite a while.

I don't post as normally I don't have anything useful to add.

This is my first cab (26" Silverline JAMMA conversion) that came with 2 joysticks and 8 buttons (6 leaf, 2 micro's) so I do have something to compare them against. There are no marking on the joysticks but one of them looks similar to a Suzo 500 without the restrictor plates. I also work for a fruit machine company in the UK and I am therefore exposed to buttons, etc as part of my job.

Order was placed last night and I have received an email this morning to say it has been posted.

I will post pictures when complete and no I have not announced my MAME project to the BYOAC forum. I probably will not as it seems hat people won't believe I am really doing it anyway.

I will still let people know what I think of the kit when it arrives regardless of peoples views of my experience or lack of it.

Lighten up people.

LOL

Its not cynicism that makes me think your full of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, its common sense.  Please dont insult the intelligence of potential customers, this will only hurt your business.

The sticks in the link look similar to Sanwa J-Stiks, except the mounting plate is black and I think the detail on the dust washer is different.  I'd be interested to hear what the sticks are like anyway...

I hate to speculate but usually "high quality" joysticks without saying the name brand = chinese knockoffs.  They are definately not Sanwa though.

Hi TravistyOJ & other knockers,

I do take offence to what you are implying here.

What would you like me to do to prove I am not connected to the seller???

I have my ebay & paypal email receipt if this will help put your mind at rest. PM me if you want these, I will also send you the questions I asked through ebay before my purchase.

Anything else you require (within reason) to prove I am for real I will happily try to supply. This is a community that has helped me a great deal in my plans for my machine. To be vilified and called a liar simply because I have not posted before as I take the trouble to find and read the information is dissapointing to say the least.

Minwah: I will of course post my thoughts on the joysticks. They do look like Sanwa copies. The only info I have from the seller is that the are not switchable to 4 way (I asked). If you look closely at the photo on ebay though it does look remarkably like a restrictor plate on the bottom so let's wait and see.

Regards
Muz

I will need a blood sample, a urine sample, a lock of your hair, your birth certificate, and fingerprints.  No seriously, there is no way you can prove or disprove your affiliation.  It is beyond fishy when two users who have no previous posts both "converse" about a merchant that has previously never been mentioned on the forums, with an OK deal at best.  Do you know how many people are selling almost the exact same package deal on eBay?  Lots  They are just cheap knock off buttons and cheap knock off joysticks made in china.  This is hardly newsworthy.

This is -exactly- how the infamous slikstick caper started!   ;D

This should probably be moved to the buy/sell/trade forum anyway.

Hi TravistyOJ & other knockers,

Explain
(1) Why you chose this lame eBay "store"/seller over any other
(2) and why, out of the blue, you just HAPPENED to appear here on BYOAC to promote this seller and tell us about your purchase.

- There are a lot of places to buy buttons.
- A lot of people buy buttons from those various places.
- They do NOT then come here and register on the BYOAC forums to talk about their button purchase unless there is some reason.
- That reason is either (a) The deal is so unblelievable that they were driven to share with the world how they got 1000 buttons for $2.50!
Or (b) They are a shill

Oh Dear Oh Dear,

The reason for posting is because it was a cheap deal and I thought I would share my thoughts with this community to try to give something back.

OK. Joysticks and buttons arrived yesterday.

Buttons as expected. Nothing spectacular. A button is a button.

Joysticks do not feel very robost. They are cheap copies and the stick wobbles a little if you shake the joystick. One of the joysticks had not been built correctly as only 2 of the microswitches clicked when I moved the joystick. I removed the restrictor plate (it is only 8 way as it is a circular cutout in the middle ). Basically the lock nut on the end if the stick was not tight enough and the metal flap above the microswitch on the 2 non-working switches was bent down a little.

Easy enough to put right but disappointing as you should not have to do this with new stuff. I guess you get what you pay for in the end.

Not been able to test the stick in anger as my cab is not up and running. Overall not very pleased with the quality of the joysticks.

I basically paid

I stand corrected, a negative review pretty much proves you aren't the guy sellin the stuff.  Sorry bout that, but you gotta admit, it was more than somewhat fishy.  Maybe inky is the guy.  Who knows, well welcome to BYOAC, what a fun start you have already had.  As for buttons and joysticks, there are a lot of options and a lot of preferences out there, but almost 100% people regret it when they buy these knock off joysticks and buttons.  I was in the same boat, found all the joysticks and buttons i needed for $20, bought them and never did anything with them cuz they sucked so much.      So what kind of games are you planning on playing the most?  For a general MAME cab, Id say you cant beat Happ Competition joysticks and buttons, they are the industry standard.  For a more classic feel you could get leaf switch joysticks and buttons, or there are Sanwas if you want the japanese experience.  Good luck on your project.

Sorry for doubting you Muzland.  I hate that you got substandard equipment.  There ARE reputable sellers on this site.  Please note their post count next time.  A good rule of thumb is to not buy something from someone with less than 50 posts.

Or listen to someone who has more than 10,000
