Title: Mame config file?
Post by: Brewser on January 22, 2006, 09:29:23 pm
I recently updated Mame on my cab to the newest release, but I had to remap all my buttons and joysticks. I only replaced the Mame.exe file. Does the button config file reside within the Mame.exe file? If not what file is it? I am confused.

How old was the version of mame you WERE running?  I think the input config may have changed at one point.  Can anyone else confirm/deny?

Can anyone shed some light on which file contains the controller mapping for each game in mame? I really don't want to remap everyting when I upgrade mame.
Thanks for any help.

There is a default.cfg file under mame\cfg I think.  This is what mame uses for your button/joystick configs when it can't find a game specific one.  Under that folder you will also find <rom name>.cfg as well for all those games where you had done custom remappings.

Does Mame reset the config files when you replace the mame.exe file? I thought it was strange to lose the keyboard mapping by only replacing mame.exe and not changing any other folder.
Thanks

Sometimes the cfg format changes (& this can cause all sorts of problems)...I think it may well have changed between 0.96 and 0.102.  You are best off deleting the contents of your \mame\cfg folder and reconfiguring IMO.
