Title: new DIY project
Post by: psik0tik on January 21, 2006, 09:54:23 pm
This is definitely my nexy diy project. http://www.nickhaddock.co.uk/jetkart.htm It says you can make it out of an old car turbo and I have a couple of those in the garage. Yes dangerous but what male has'nt wanted his own jet engine...with AFTERBURNER no doubt. Im starting on it tommorrow if and when I finish I'll post some vids and pics.

Yes, yes, strap yourself, in, fire it up... of course, fire is hot, and cars have firewalls.  So it will get mighty hot.  Then hit the throttle... of course, cars are heavy, and thus stay upright when pushed, but your kart is not, so it will flip over...  it still has energy to give, so it will drag you face down across the pavement while your skin is simultaneously melted off and fused to the asphalt over a 500 yard path of natural selection.

Good luck!

plenty of people have built these things..it produces at max mabye 60 lbs of thrust which isnt gonna flip anything over. Only thing im worried about is the KABOOM factor but the guy down the street is just finishing his up and he says I don't have much to worry about. Heat isnt a big issue I drove the other guys kart and its hot yes but not as hot as you think...its a turbine not a pulse engine.

edit: I dont know if I qualify for a kid anymore lol I hit the 30 this year

Personally I think that looks bloody awesome fun.

I have been playing with the idea of putting a litre sportsbike engine into something that resembles a modified go kart.

Ive thought about a crotch rocket engine in a kart too but I cant figure out the transmission. All it would need is a small 2 speed tranny cause anything over that and youd probably fly.

For some reason when I see the words crotch rocket and tranny in the same sentence disturbing images enter my brain. :o

Allready been done.

There's a video of a guy who swapped his 2cycle go-kart motor for a Suzi (750cc?) 'Gixxer and ran around on a closed track. You wanna talk about fast, Google it and see for yourself.

Bones, check out the current copy of Cycle World for a cool kart with a bike motor.
otherwise I like the idea of jet propelled anything, good luck!

I went and picked up a club car today. Its bigger than a go kart but a golf cart has a wider wheel base and alot more room in the back. Instead of building mine out of a car turbo (which if not built perfect will detonate) im going to use a Solent turbine. It's basiclly a turbine used to start larger turbines like in commercial jets it's about the size of a  large lawn mower engine. I'll just have to fit it with oil cooling and an afterburner flame tube. It's only ment to run about a minute at a time so I'lll have to modify it a bit :)

Whatever happened to using an actual lawnmower engine?

ooooh, james bond flash back. i think the BeDe5j jet was powered but some sort of auxillary turbine as well. i think a genreator from a 747. you might want to check those out as they are meant to run forever...
man, when i finally finish my licence im gonna get a bede  ;D pity theyre only single seat-would really impress the chicks....
