Title: Magic Sword?
Post by: slycrel on January 20, 2006, 03:53:03 pm
Hey all.

Just curious, I have the opportunity to buy a Magic Sword machine for $195.  I haven't seen it yet, but it's supposed to be in "tested and working" condition.  I get pictures in the email tomorrow sometime.

Is this worth it?

I've already gotten my wife's approval, I just need to convince myself it's worth having.  =)

There is a magic sword here in Utah on CL for $100. IT's in great shape too.

I'll have to check it out, I'm in Utah.  :D

It's near my office in Lindon, but I don't have the room to pick up another cab. Where are you located??

I am in spanish fork.  Lindon is much closer than SLC for me.  (strouve distributing was the other one I was looking for...)

Going to give them a call.  Thanks a ton for the tip.  =)

I have a cab or two that I am interested in selling. Lethal enforcers II and Ridge Racer 2 upright. Maybe others.

Heh, yeah, small world.  =)

No idea if I know you or not, but I'm sure you know my family.  Larry Stone is my uncle and stone drug is woned by my other uncle.  heh...

Yeah, we should get together sometime.  My only other cab is a MAME'd defender which is in varying states of working as I'm messing with it.  Currently the xbox that goes in it is sitting here at work next to me while I tinker with it.

I'm not sure I'm in the market for a bunch of games...  I am currently saving my nickels and dimes for an addam's family or twilight zone pinball machine, which aren't cheap.  Oh, not to mention the fact that I have a 3 bedroom house with 3 kids.  :D  Thank goodness for unfinished basements.  heh.

I used to steam clean Larry's diesel bays years and years ago.

I have a mega 4 player mame cab,  a PS2 cab and 12 other cabs in verious states from completely restored to an empty cab. I have a couple in a spare room, one in the basement, a few in the garage, some in storage, a few here at my office and a couple at my parent's house. I've been trying to save up for a pin too, but I just keep picking up games that need restoration and I spend all my money doing that, then they become a labor of love and I can't part with them.

If you need any help with capping monitors, replacing flybacks and such, give me a shout out.

Will do, sounds like you have a bit more experience than I do.  :D

And thanks again for the tip.

Would you be interested in selling JUST the boardset for that Ridge Racer 2? If so, how much?

I have a friend who is seriously tempted on the ridge racer, but it won't happen.  He lives in a basement apartment and is already storing stuff at my place.  =)

For all of you who are interested...  I picked up the magic sword yesterday.  It was in better shape than I expected.  The monitor is in great shape, controls are relatively useable, only minor cab damage, stuff that is repairable.  Now I have to go looking for a strider board to possibly put in there when I'm done with it.

Anyone know anything about Jamma cabs that I should know before I go messing around in there?  Are the Jamma boards easily swapped out?  This is my first serviceable working arcade machine.

In theory yes. But sometimes not. Sometimes, the board is screwed to the side of the cab, and there's no room to put it elsewhere, so it ends up being a chore to unscrew/screw boards when you swap.

Another problem you can encounter is space. Some boards are bigger than others (either width/length is different or thickness) and that can be a problem if the original board and layout of "guts" is tight.

But those are things that can be worked out.

I'm glad you picked up the cab and that it was in good shape. Did the guy have anything else arcade related??

Have fun learning about Jamma cabs. They are easy to figure out compared to other cabs out there.

No, this was in his basement.  It looks like they got a pool table for Christmas and between that, a cheap air-hockey table and the arcade machine it was really tight in their basement family room.

Yeah, I finally got on eo fthose fantastic deals that you seem to hear about all over but never really get yourself...  I'm excited.  =)
