Title: Dual Monitor Sitdown
Post by: Birdtales on February 09, 2003, 03:48:16 pm
I've read back through the archives and all of the threads on the new board. There was a discussion back in November about dual monitors but the person wanted to split the Mame screen.

I just want to know if Mame will display a copy on two displays. I picked up a dual monitor sitdown (Road Rage 4WD) this weekend at auction. I'd like to Mame it but want to know if the displays will work before I spend the money on dual cards.

I plan to ask Andy too if his card was ever tested with dual cards and monitors. That is again IF Mame will display on two of them. Any comments will be welcome.

You'll need a single card with dual outputs. In Windows, most cards have an option to 'mirror' or 'clone' the main display.

If you're going to use dual arcade monitors, the only option I know about is Andy's card under DOS. Under DOS the second display port outputs the same signal as the primary port. In windows though, it outputs VGA compatable signals.

If what he is asking about is "Can I display the game in dual monitor" such as Punchout, Playchoice 10,  Darius (side by side monitor) then the answer would No. MAME don't support dual output meaning display Puchout specs on one, and play the game on the other.

You can get monitor splitters. This will display the same screen to more than one monitor. I have one that will do up to 4.  This will work with any video card or OS.

You can get a dual headed card or run 2 compatible video cards and usually they can be configured to show the same image on both screens. This will probably require Windows and will work with Mame.

But would a monitor splitter work on arcade monitors? I'm gonna do this thing so I'll report back what I found the to be the best way to do it.  I only gave 115.00 for the game so I won't be out too much if I can't make it work. Right now the game is working perfect on one side. The other side needs a cap kit and some work on the steering controller.

I'm thinking Andy's Arcade VGA and DOS may be my best bet but I would like to run in Windows if I can.

With Andys card you should run Windows just fine.

I missed the part about you mentioning 2 arcade monitors. Assuming that you want the same picture on both, can't the cable simply be split? I have no first hand experience with arcade monitors.

Hmm... I think a simple 'Y' monitor splitter would work, though you might need video amps on both monitors.

No it's a Road Riot 4WD. I just want one set of controls in front of each monitor.

hmmn even the spliter works, how can you display 1 player on one side and 2 player on the other side?  If you mirror the image it will only mirror the one players view. :-\

I only wanted the same image on both monitors. Mame doesn't support two different views as in a VS cabinet.
