Title: Ultrastyle
Post by: toasty on January 17, 2006, 04:37:06 pm
Is this FE dead?  I'm trying to set it up and am having the problem described  here (http://ultrastyle.proboards26.com/index.cgi?board=open&action=display&thread=1133741959), but the comments in the thread suggest that it may not still be supported.  I don't want to expend the effort to get it up and running if it isn't going to be supported anymore anyway.

It's a shame if it's no longer going to be supported, b/c I love the wheel interface.

Ya, I wonder what happened to him... I've tried to get ahold of him on other matters for a while and haven't heard a thing. Hope he is OK.  ???

The last post I saw from him he had gotten a programming job.  That was the last thing I heard.

The new job was going to keep him very busy the last I had heard.  From what I understand, Ultrastyle was a lot of the reason he got the new job (ie. excellent demonstration of his programming skills).

Well, good for him.  I guess real life calls, at times...  :)

Guys,
busy isn't the word for it...
I have decided to let go of ultrastyle because I can't give it the attention it deserves.
I believe someone in the ultrastyle forum has found a fix for the .100 issue.
I have had a few people inquire about helping out. And one that I know of has bought the Blitz3D compiler($100).
I know my coding isn't "industry standard" clean, but I was learning as I went with ultrastyle.
The reason I am posting is that I came across the wiki board (Looks fantastic by the way) and I hopped back here
to see if anyone else knew it went open source. I am sure there are more then a few of you guys out there that can make ultrastyle do things that I never could. I have made unreleased changes, and hope to get a sourceforge page to host it so it can continue to grow. The users were the ones who came up with 98% of the features, I hope they can still help to move the ball down the field, so to speak.

Chris

Somebody (not me) just needs to modify it so that it uses dk's external list generator.

People always think I'm crazy for splitting my fe into many parts (wrappers, list generator, fe, dat maker) but it doesn't seem so crazy when I haven't released a version of dk in almost two years and yet it's never became incompatable with mame due to quick, one line, list gen changes I made and released as the list generator whenever mame made a change.  ;)
