Title: Have you seen this boy?
Post by: AlmightyCoRnDogg on January 17, 2006, 12:03:11 am
Hey guys,

Been lurking around here for a while and had a quick question. I'm building my cab (just like everyone else) and I've settled on the design for my CP. However, I'm not the best vectorizer (is that a word?) and I don't wanna vectorize this image if I don't have to. Has anyone seen a vectorization (?) of this Ryu image? If so please point me in the right direction. If not, I might be able to pull it off, but I may need some help. Thanks a bunch guys!

Sorry it's kinda big...

I traced it in corel

it is without transparency  :(

Is that an autotrace in Corel? Can you post a closeup of the face (especially the eye and ear?)

I already put the transparency in the wireframe,
but for that I used Illustrator , much better for editing.  :)

Corel could be better than illustrator for editing,
but I like much more illustrator. ;)

After that, I saw that the original image have some defects in
the borders when placed on top of an dark color (like black).
I have to edit the original image to repair the defect borders,
but now I have an exam in college, so I will make it next week.

I think that corel 12 could make it better, but for now I have 11version,
saturday I will talk to a friend that has the 12version.  ;)

aah, too bad :-\ It looked rather promising in the first screenshots. It bascially traced the pixels and not the shapes, you can see the squares that are typical for bitmaps in the vector version too.

The end result of the enlarged vector will actually be worse than a large printed version of the bitmap - they will both be "blocky" but the bitmap has more shades of colour in it. So if you plan to use the image, either trace it by hand or use the enlarged bitmap but not the autotraced version.

The "defects" you mention are the result from the anti-alias. Anti-alias is a technique to colour neighbouring pixels to eliminate the "jaggies", see Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-alias) for a more in depth explaination. Basicially when you have a image that is aliased for a white backdrop and you change the backdrop to black you will notice the neigbouring pixels because they are part of the alias-to-white.

I still lurk from time to times, and sometimes it's too much for me, and I have to answer ;)

but currently I have no time left at this moment for tracing  :'( :'( :'(

but I'll be back as soon as possible

Don't take it too heart.  The byoac lads and lasses (self included) can be a sarcastic, honest, opinionated bunch..... and that's just fine and dandy in my books.  Really get's the old scone thinking more about your projects... and/or leaves you lol :).  Damn...these attitudes MADE me improve my AI skills, amongst others.  No argument from me!  :D

this one is as nice one, it will stay smooth and clean at any scale. you can enlarge as much as you want it will keep a smooth aspect.
just try to enlarge and print some part of some autotraced stuff and you will imediatly see why  autotrace produce some ......

good job with the thundercats logo

thanks, zorg.

I tried to print the ryu trace with 1200% and it was
a really "a nice piece of ---Cleveland steamer---".  ;)

I think that autotrace is good to assist in the tracing
of very complex pics like the ryu picture, because
we have already the right colors for it and we know
by advance how to create the shades.

I will try autotrace the ryu image and the put it in background
and trace it by hand.

best regards
