OK, I'm sure at least a few of you have the new 5G iPod and have played with it. So...
I spent quite a while yesterday trying to convert a DVD for my new iPod, but keep running into problems.
I used this guide...
http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/guides.html
...to convert the movie, but the audio got out-of-sync somewhere along the line. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Or, does anyone know of a better way of doing it? I'm looking to convert full-length movies. I'm really hoping not to spend anymore money on this thing.
Thanks!

what format and what size(pixel wise) does it need to be for an ipod?
you can rip from the dvd using almost anything(i use dvdfab decrypter http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm )...that will get it in .ifo format
then use autogordianknot (http://www.autogk.me.uk/) to put it in .avi format
then use virtual dub (http://www.virtualdub.org/) to make it whatever size you want...

avi format is no good for the ipod. needs to be in mov, m4v, mp4 (apple type) formats.
I'm yet to try any conversions and will probably start off with a small avi file first.
Check through the forums (http://www.pspvideo9.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=18&sid=e15842de6d31563bafc822fc58f1654b) as there are plenty of guides and work arounds.

well damn...then scrap everything i blathered on about...

320 x 240 is the resolution. mp4 works great. You have to take the DVD and extract the VOBs off. Then you can parse them to find the crap you want to get rid of ie. long sensless previews. Then you gotta convert it. Due to the small screen size you can compress it pretty far before the artifacting becomes apparent. Some movies will cause issues as the encryption is nuttier than others. For my daughters birthday I transcoded my coppies of Batman Begins, and Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Both look great. BM was 670MB and Charlie was 580MB.
One thing to mention is that this brings up all sorts of issues concerning copyright and all that. I have not done this with anything I have not purchased.

Videora is prolly "the best" app for it thats free.. at least for converting the AVI for the ipod..
Grab DVDSanta and rip your dvd to avi first.. make sure its still in sync.. THEN convert it with videora..

That forum has helped a lot. I think the problem must be in Videora. I'm re-ripping it using the settings in this thread (http://www.pspvideo9.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3864&highlight=works&sid=4b387bb07b3ab7bc55f270fb48bc5cef) including the "-async 1" flag. I guess I will see in about an hour and a half whether or not it worked (it converts in less than realtime).

Seriously.. DVDsanta, then videora

Bad terminolodgy on my part. I meant re-encoding it. I used DVD Decrypter to rip the movie and then ran it through Videora to make the vob into an mp4 file. I haven't done much testing yet (later in the film), but it seems to be working now; the new settings for videora did the trick. I was just watching The Nightmare Before Christmas on my iPod :) . Now to go get Tron going.
Thanks a ton everyone for helping out with this!

I'm not sure how or why it double posted...
Edit: Ah, I see. I accidentally hit quote instead of modify on my first post. Could someone ask the mods to remove this post (you can't report your own post)?
