I'm having a helluva time here. I cannot seem to find the resistors that I'm looking for (to attach to a 5w LED under buttons) nor 22 gauge wire locally.
I've checked my local Ace, Radio Shack, Menards, Graybar, Lowe's and HomeDepot without success.
So, beyond ordering online--does anyone have any "local" recommendations?
Thanks!

Try electrical supplies - retail in your phone book or online directory. Smile and dial. You may find one or more places that carry it close to you.

Try another Radio Shack. They have the wire in single color rolls or 3 color rolls. And they'll easily be your best local shot for resistors.
It's not one of those that's in a mall, is it?

I'm sure Radio Shack can special order it for you if they don't have it in stock...
I'm surprised they did not have it. I bought some at my local Radio Shack....
Good luck!

As you were kind enough to share your GT graphics with me, I have an extra package of wire from Radio Shack that I will drop in the mail for ya. PM your addy and its yours.

If you suck up the online thing, there are alot of really good deals on resistors on ebay. I was gonna buy em locally too until I saw like 1000 for 5 bucks shipped...cant complain with that...

Radio shack wire sucks :-X

Just use 18 gauge, 22awg is too small and a pain to work with imo.

Yeah--I've contacted the place I got my LEDs from; they shipped incredibly fast from Anchorage, but we'll see what happens to my email request to them.
Otherwise, I'll just do a search. It's always a gamble with the eBay...

Try Hosfelt Electronics (www.hosfelt.com) and Jameco Electronics (www.jameco.com).

NOOOO go for ebay!
Actually, seriously, some good wire is cat5e. I use the wire from the inside of that (bought 1k feet for new house) so I got alot left over....
Resistors, buying them individually is a few cents, depends how much, probably from 1-4 cents US each. eBay owns for resistors.

Radio Shack tends to only carry "variety packs" now. I got my resistors in a 20 pack. It came with 5 each of 4 ratings.

That aint no kidding. Spade connectors are the worse.

Roughy, do you mean one 5w led shining up to light all of the buttons at once or one 5w led for each button? I am asking because a single 5w (watt) led does generate a bit of heat and should be heatsinked. The one 5w led also looks like a miniature searchlight when lit. I would start with a 1k resistor and then work your way down to lower value resistors until you achieve the brightness you are looking for. Most likely you only have 1/2watt or smaller (how big around) resistors, so only test them briefly. Once you find the right value, get a 5w resistor or use five 1w resistors in parallel that are 5x the needed resistance.

We've got some 5e lying around... But I wired cat 6 in my house. heh... Since I'm working on the basement and rec room areas now, I can't really use that stuff upfront, but it may make sense later!

Jameco is great - I have ordered from them in the past, and they normally have great prices, and ship quick...
