Title: Downloading Mame
Post by: newmameguy1000 on January 15, 2006, 06:43:49 pm
Hey guys,

First, let me say this is a great site. I built a cabinet about a year ago and couldn't have done it without help from this page. So Thanks in advance.

Anyway, I'm using an old IBM computer pentium3. For some reason it doesn't play well with Mame (it sets controller defaults for up and down to be n/a). Anyway, I managed to get it working and its been fine for about a year. Now I uninstalled the version I had and reinstalled it... voila same problem. So I figure I'll just download the latest version of Mame 32. It was tough to find a spot to find the download but after much searching I found the MameRomLinks site. Seemed easy enough. I downloaded the latest version, tried to extract it and got a message that said "file is broken". So I tried an earlier version and got the same problem.

So, 2 questions: 1. Does anyone know why I'd be getting this message. 2. Is there anywhere else I can download the latest version of Mame? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The file you downloaded was probably corrupt. You can grab the latest  official version of Mame32 (0.103) here (http://www.joymonkey.com/modules.php?name=UpDownload&req=viewsdownload&sid=11). Or from the official site:

Joy Monkey,

Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately I just tried your link and got this error message when I tried to extract with 7zip: "Data error in 'Mame32\Mame32.exe'. File is broken"

Any ideas?

I just downloaded it from joymonkey's site, (the HERE link), and everything wored fine.  Did you try downloading all of the versions to see if any worked?

Did you try using the latest version of 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/)?
I have no idea what else could be wrong.

Hmm... This is really interesting. I downloaded it in IE and it worked. For some reason it kept going wrong in Firefox.

I think Firefox kept the memory of the bad link perhaps? Because when I went to download it, it was like it was instantly there...

Anyway it worked. Thanks!
