Title: A token vendor recommendation
Post by: pmc on January 15, 2006, 12:47:16 pm
I hope this is OK to post here.

If you are looking to supplement your MAME/BYOAC token bucket for cheap, this eBayer worked out really well for me. His name is Bob Keck and he goes by vallejo_tokens. I think this is his web page (http://home.pacbell.net/tokenbob/).

He sells used tokens by the pound. These aren't collector's items but are great for a cab. They are used and sometimes abused. They include assorted sizes of generic arcade tokens (eagles, wizards, horseshoes, etc.), named arcades, laundry mats, parking tokens, chuck-e-cheese, the occasional nudie, etc. Lots seem to be from NJ but they are generally from all over the US. I soaked the filthy tokens in dish soap for a couple of hours and rubbed them with a cloth/sponge. They cleaned up really nice and have a nice patina. Don't use lemon juice/salt and/or a scrubbie. I think I wrecked a bunch by doing that.

$4 for 2lbs and $5 shipping (although I think his shipping is going up). He's got like 400lbs and scoops them out by the pound. I got something like 220 tokens in a 2lb batch.

His weighting generous (~10% extra). Bob sorted through a little to get me mostly 0.984 and 0.900. He accidentally shipped me an extra package and when I notified him, he said "how's that for service? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!".

Anyway, a great guy to do business with. Enough that I felt I'd plug him anyway.
