Title: Analog joysticks -- dual or single setup (give input)
Post by: kspiff on February 08, 2003, 03:53:56 am
So I have 2 analog Steel Talons joysticks.. and I'll be making 2 arcade cabinets.. my dilemma is simple: would I get more enjoyment/use out of these things in a dual stick setup or using one per cab..?  I'm hard pressed to think of any games -- even on recent consoles, which I currently have no plans of using on these machines -- that would utilize a dual analog stick setup.. also it would be pretty nice to network the 2 cabs together for FPS tourneys with a War: Final Assault-type setup.. and have a flight stick on each.. keep in mind these are analog so no BattleZone/Assault(damn)/Tron with these things, anyways..

Also, if I do go single-stick.. isn't the only common control besides a stick for flight games a high-low shifter..?  I can't think of any good flying games with anything else on them..

Damn.. makes me want to play G-Loc or Space Harrier just thinking about it..  :P

EPROM - Escape From the Planet of Robot Monsters.

It was 2 player analog stick, 3buttons each.

Hm.. technically those are Hall Effect joysticks, but yeah same thing for MAME purposes.. the original machine didn't have huge trigger sticks, though (used to play that one all the time).  But, yeah, that's one non-console game using 2 analog-type joys.. Arch Rivals is another one in that vein (49-ways, I think)..

Damn.. this is a hard decision.. I don't think I can bring myself to use both on one cab.. after some thought, I think I'll be using Kaillera for 2P games using 1 analog each.

Rephrasing my question a bit: can anyone think of any arcade games requiring 2 analogs for P1 (dual sticks)?  Until they emulate CyberSled or the Virtual On series, I can't think of any..

Didn't one of the flying games have a throttle control on it?

Hey just throw a Thrustmaster Hotas Cougar on there  ;)
