Title: Dreamcast/Arcade monitor confusion!
Post by: subcriminal on January 12, 2006, 05:19:37 pm
I have been reading the FAQ's on Dreamcast to JAMMA and to arcade monitors and managed to get all confused about it! Does anyone know if it's possible to wire directly from the inside of the DC's AV connector to a VGA port or do I need a VGA box?
I looked at this pinout http://www.hardwarebook.net/connector/av/dreamcast.html and saw the RGB pins and H/V sync pins.
I thought the VGA box converted the composite sync to H/V but if there are H/V sync pins on the AV connector why would you need to use one apart from it being plug and play?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm not expecting it to be possible as it seems too easy ;D

I don't see why you couldn't. I think its just much easier to do using a vga box. All you'd need  to do is solder directly to the appropriate pins and short one of 'em (there's a pinout help-guide on the main BYOAC page I believe). I would really just spend the $10-20 and have all your bases covered.
