Title: price for tinted plexi?
Post by: megashock5 on January 11, 2006, 03:06:39 pm
Hello, I'm getting close to completing my cab based on Saint's book. I'm looking for a piece of tinted/smoked plexi (based on reccomendations I've seen here) and the place I found in town wants $32 for a 26"x26" piece.

Before I spend that much, is this a decent price? I wasn't expecting it to be that much. How much have others paid?

Thanks in advance!

I paid $40 for mine.  It was 26" x 24" I believe.

I've seen it from $20 - $30 by me (IL).  Got mine for $20 from a glass specialty place.

Okay, so it doesn't sound too out of line. I just didn't expect it to be that much.

Thanks, guys!

My recommendation is to have someone else cut it for you--ie buy from the shop pre-cut to your dimensions.

Scoring's a ---smurfette--- if you just use the hand tool and may send you back out to buy your second piece then pre-cut.

Not that it ever happened to me or anything.  Just saying.

Yeah, luckily where I work we have a plexicutting booth. It makes precision soooooo much easier.

Yeah, I think I might do that. I cut it for the marquee with a scoring tool and it worked, but I wouldn't call it precise.

Generally speaking glass is cheaper. You can have a piece of tempered made for a little bit of nothing. It doesn't scratch up like plexi either.

Just a thought.

I paid something like $25 for a piece of smoked glass (plate not tempered) that was 22"x35"

In central ohio it's $85-$100 for a 22x32 piece of tempered glass with rounded corners.  More if you want it tinted.

Got a brother in law who is a glasser(sp?) and hooked me up with a 26x26 smoked, tempered glass for 20.00.  The cost was half that, but retail it was around 40.00.  I highly suggest you let the shop know what you want it for and you might get lucky and make a friend.
