Title: Slikstik custom pear drop installation Q's
Post by: MikeDeuce on January 10, 2006, 10:42:44 pm
So... after struggling to get the "metal sleeve" on the shaft it looks like you aren't supposed to be using it at all, correct? They ship the product with the normal happ 360 instructions and all the accessories, so I'm a little confused, but want to make sure I'm installing the new shaft correctly. Can anyone offer some advice?

Currently it looks like you install everything as normal, but skip the 5/8" bushing/"metal sleeve". Or am I just not pushing hard enough? Heh.

Thanks!

Ended up sending them an email and got the following response:

"No you don't need the metal sleeves.  Just put the black dust ring on the shaft and
the small round black ring on the way the instructions tell you to.  Then insert
shaft and put the other black larger ring on the way they instruct you to and add
the E-clip.  Hope this helps."

Just thought I'd share in case anyone else is ever curious in the future.

Thanks!

Hehe so they basically said "RTFM!" in flowery terms :)

Actually instead of "RTFM" it was more like "OFAFOTSLITMASOTDNATTCVOTP360BWMNNTTWYPSYEHTFIOOYOOEUTC" (only follow a few of the steps listed in the manual, as some of them do not apply to the customized version of the p360, but we make no notice to this with your purchase, so you either have to figure it out on your own or email us to confirm).  :P

For the price tag on those babies you'd think they would show up and install them for you! :)

I was messing around with these prior to installation, and noticed that the handles are obscenely fat around the upper half.  When you put this in the base, it leaves only a 1/16" diameter space all around it.  Makes for a VERY short throw.  Much shorter than I remember joysticks being.  Is this normal?

And I fell in that boat too.  I thought for a second you weren't to use the actuator at all, and had to settle for 8way mode, figuring the stick acted as an actuator somehow.  I figured you still used the sleeve as well.

This all may be pointless from me.  I haven't played an arcade in so long, I forgot how throws and whatnot actually felt like.  I may just be remembering wrong.

Sounds familiar, are you just holding the plastic base in your hand while you try to wiggle the stick? I did that too and it felt extremely short, but once it was mounted in my CP the throw felt normal. It might be the stiff action (springs? physical illusion perhaps?).

Retroblast has a review with videos showing the mounted throw:

Haha - I did the same thing when I got my handles. I ended up thinking - damn, that's tight (focus - no comments on that one) and then tried it without the sleeve. Worked great! They really should make a note of that to people - and I do RTFM!
