so i finally got around to fixing my MAME PC and i put mame32 1.03 on it and a new set of roms just to test it out before i go setup a FE. and every game i try runs super slow, like even basic stuff like pacman, and im running a pretty good PC
athlon xp 2000
256mb ram ( im getting more soon i just had this laying around)
100GB 7200RPM ultra133 HD
onboad video
i just freshly installed windows xp pro on this brand new HD. i didnt have the driver cd for the mobo but i went to the soyo website looked it up made sure i installed them all, display audio and some 4in1 pack, got everything they had listed for the mobo, its the right ones i have the manual still.
is there any benchmark programs that are free download i can try running? i ran it through pcpitstop.com full scan and it checked out fine. also is there somewhere i can download older mame32 versions to test out

http://mame.joymonkey.com/mame32/
You can find most versions of Mame32 at that site.
I had the same problem with .103 until I enabled DIRECT3D. Once you enable that box, uncheck the texture management and rotate effects boxes. Then everything ran fine.

tried the exact mame32 and roms on my main PC runs fine...
i tried using direct 3d and turning off those 2 boxes, same problem, i put on frame skipping on automatic and it seemed to make it run smoother but you can see its skipping frames in mspacman and it shouldnt be. im not sure if its the PC running slow in general or just mame, what else could i test

What resolution are you playing at?
-
everythings on standard mame32 settings, all on auto for res and stuff

You've been around this site long enough to know that the more MAME progresses, the slower older games run.
I turn OFF Direct3D.
Turn ON DirectDraw
Turn OFF scanline effects
Turn off Artwork in Miscellaneous

Change it from auto to something small...like 320x240.

yeah i know, i didnt try an older version yet but im suspecting it may be the PC in general that is being slow this is the first thing ive tried to do on it since its been installed and brought to life. although it surfs the web fine and plays flash games without lag... so probably not... also in mame the sound is super choppy too, like when you press the credit button in mspac the sound is like chug--- ch----u--gg
yeah i dont have any scanlines on i tried direct draw without 3d, no artwork is even loaded on the pc yet.. i dunno. im gonna go try like .85

wow all that frustration and i didnt go with my first instinct, mame32 103 must be bugged or something cause any other version works fine ::shrug::
