Title: Removing Adult Games?
Post by: electricd on January 10, 2006, 10:16:48 am
Hello,

I have a cabinet going into a family type place.  Is there a list somewhere of the "non-family friendly" games somewhere.  I searched the forums but didn't turn it up.  Thanks in advance!

Heh, someone just E-mailed me about the same thing . . .  Here's what I sent back:

There are several methods, depending on what you want to end up with:

Basically, you can do it using either MAME Content Manager, or EmuLoader.  You can probably get similar results from any frontend or program that uses catver.ini (or even by manually parsing catver.ini) http://www.mameworld.net/catlist/

I talk about both methods in these threads (I post as Tiger-Heli):

I am assuming you only want to remove the roms and artwork (and maybe create a list of files).  I think MCM will do that for you.  Keep in-mind there is no bullet-proof method.  Removing the roms doesn't remove the drivers from MAME, or the games from the game list (possibly), so you still may see the games there, and your kids could download the Roms and play them.  Even commenting them out of the MAME source and re-compiling doesn't prevent the kids from downloading the latest MAME and the Rom, but . . .

HTH . . .

I ditched the Roms and edited the catver.ini file and removed those entries too.  No more adult (Naked Majong???) games.
