Post by: gsoul on January 09, 2006, 10:57:26 pm
I have never seen ANYTHING like this before!!

Its an LAI Space invaders cabinet thats been turned into a fish tank.

Heres the link! (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Arcade-video-game-cabinet-with-fish-tank_W0QQitemZ6241835246QQcategoryZ3945QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

If I lived in South Australia I'd DEFINITELY bid on this one.

Looks like Asteroids to me.
Why are there joysticks on that?
This is just too ghetto. EpTheGeek where are you? We need you!

A travesty to Asteroids and to fish alike.

The guppies are hard to hit but they are worth 500 points

It's got an Escape from the planet of the Robot Monsters marquee on it- the joystics may be Hall-Effect sticks.

edit- just read his Q&A section- looks like he added some regular sticks after he gave it the Aquaman treatment.

It would be easier and more respectful to run an aquarium screensaver.

I had a buddy of mine put a fish tank into a gutted cab once. It wasn't Asteroids though...it was Hydra.

Seriously.

Damn you all (and everybody else) - I've been watching this with the intention of restoring it, but it looks like it's going to go for way too much :P

---by the flying spaghetti monster's hairy nether regions!---, I am so jealous of you North Americans who can get cheap interesting cabs...

What I want to know is why they'd use such a huge stand for such a tiny tank.

Do the joysticks control the fish?  That would be cool.

Do you still get the Space Invaders music?

It would be cool if you could still play Asteroids.  It would add a new level of challenge and depth because you couldn't always see the asteroids when a gold fish swims in front of them.  It might have been better to turn it into a reptile tank.  It would add a low budget Godzilla/SciFi effect to the game.

You wouldn't be able to keep the water at a suitable temperature anyway.

(and no, you ain't putting a fishtank in my AD)

Too much for you ;) Seriously though, I'd guess around the $100 mark at a bare minimum (it doesn't have a monitor and you could always forego the fish tank unless you really want it, so that would save on weight).

Shameless Plug!

This is my old cab for sale on ebay!

I bought it with the intention of doing it up, but it never happened. Just bought my MEGA mortal Kombat machine, with MK1, MK2, UMK3 and MK4 inside, so it kinda went on the backburner.
