I posted this on another forum, but haven't had any reply. So maybe somebody here can help me out.
I have the Performance VGA adapter. Has anybody opened this up and modified it to run at 15khz? if so, could you give a little insight on how you did it? i plan on doing it, but am just a little wary of ruining such a GREAT piece of hardware.
I just opened it up (BOY was that a pain!! :o) and can't make heads or tails of the wires. I know that i need to is disconnect wire 6 from the ground, but I have no idea which wire is what. It doesnt seem to be like any of the schematics that I have seen. I will post a picture tomorrow, but in the meantime - does anybody have any experience doing this? Am I wasting my time with this adapter and should just go with a cheap Naki or other adapter? I really want the automatic bypass on this so that will be at least one less switch to worry about.

This is covered in the "Game Consoles" section link on the left. Any DC vga adapter can be made to run at 15khz. Use a multimeter to test which pin is pin 6 and then disconnect at the point where the cable goes into the VGA pcb.
If you don't have a multimeter or know how to perform the continuity test, now is a good time to learn. Ask if you need help.

You're right, the Performance adapter is pretty rare, and it's one the only ones that has a monitor pass-thru. I guess with all the others, you have to swap your monitor cable to go from PC to DC, what a pain. I'd offer to trade you another VGA adapter and some money for it, but I'm broke.

well, i went out and bought a multimeter last night. i tested the wires, and pin 6 came through on 2 different wires (3 including ground). so with a 50/50 chance and one "snip" later - oops, wrong wire. grrr. but one quick splice and one more "snip" later and voila! dc on the monitor. PLUS - with the magic of the performance - automatic video switching between pc and dc. beautiful.

Doh! I should have realized this. Both wires are connected to ground inside the vgabox pcb, so yes they will both read the same when testing from the connector end. I've been wanting to update the console FAQ, and I'll make sure this gets in there as well. Thanks for posting your results Luxury.
