Well, maybe not me, I've disclosed my identity here. This is just stupid and annoying in itself!
-
you have got to be shi.tting me
:'( i cry for the death of a once free America.
-
I have not violated this law.
-
Damn it. Why couldn't you have used a handle? ;D
-
Like yours?
OH!
-
I give it a week. The EFF will be all over it.
-
They're going to eff it?
-
well, you notice the article said
"He's right. Our esteemed politicians can't seem to grasp this simple point, but the First Amendment protects our right to write something that annoys someone else."
This law pretty much voids the first admendment as pretty much anything that is communicated is annoying to someone. It just needs to be challenged in court once to be overturned.
-
I'm not sure what to think about this one.
It makes sense, for example someone on this site found out the real name and work number of someone else and then started harassing him.
If we have to give up our real names this board would end up being a place to post about arcade topics and the internet would no longer be the complain about Gore losing community he created it to be.
-
I am not an American. I can still do as I please to you ---daisies---.
-

Yeah, I bet they already are.

But that's harassing, there's already laws against that. It isn't that hard to trace a person here unless they use an anonymous proxy.
This is talking about just annoying someone.
-

That's what Sadam said.
-
So by this very law you could face prosecution by saying the Yankees suck?
I think you'd guys better move to China for some freedom of speech. ;D

Only if it annoys someone to say that. I am not annoyed by it :)
-
But with the PC thugs out there constantly shifting what is and is not offensive, anything could be illegal now.

But is being offensive the same as being annoyed?
If someone came into my room and scratched on a chalkboard I would find that annoying, but not offensive.

lol...yup...while NOT being an American may exempt you from our taxes, laws, etc. It does open you up to carpet bombing.

Everything Mr.C. says annoys me. Please arrest him immediately unless he promises to post only cheesecake related items in the future.
-
I for one welcome our new giant ant overlords -- They are the government and we must do and respect everything they say!

Bush signed the law. He's the top PC thug. I think he did it to outlaw any criticism of his administration, giving people like Markvp the true brown-shirt status he's always craved! :)

I'm exempt, as my name is David Curmudgeon.

It will be when someone redefines what it means to be offended so as to put someone else in jail.
-
I really curious who'll be the first asshat to really use this law to try to prosecute someone.

MrC, oh man, you have that ugly photoshopped kitten fake story. I'm going to have to ban you just for that :)
FYI if you are wondering where in the Act it says annoy because you did a text search on the act at the library of congress website
SEC. 113. PREVENTING CYBERSTALKING.
(a) In General- Paragraph (1) of section 223(h) of the Communications Act of 1934 (47 U.S.C. 223(h)(1)) is amended--
...
(3) by adding at the end the following new subparagraph:
`(C) in the case of subparagraph (C) of subsection (a)(1), includes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet (as such term is defined in section 1104 of the Internet Tax Freedom Act (47 U.S.C. 151 note)).'.
That doesn't say annoy. Now if you search the 1934 act it doesn't say annoy. Now if you search the web you find an amendment to the act from 1996. It's been there since 1996 when BILL was president. Just this new act adds internet to that amendment. Read section 223(h) with the amendments.
It's more than just annoy, but annoy is one of the words.

(ii) initiates the transmission of any comment, request, suggestion, proposal, image, or other communication which is obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, or indecent, with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass another person;

This site and any of its content is very low on the totem pole of the hierarchy of places that might draw any attention. I wouldn't worry about the cheesecake thread :)

You know I was kidding. If you actually read the act and all the amendments you see the part in question is under the cyberstalking section. Basically this stuff will only come into effect if someone is stalking you.
I just wanted to see what the comments from the peanut gallery where.
-

I am annoyed that cheesecake has been sent to post hell without my consultation.
-
Hey, SirP... I like your shirt.
-
My name is Nerf Hoffelmeyer, so you can suck it, Trebek ;D

I for one welcome our new giant ant overlords -- They are the government and we must do and respect everything they say!
You shouldn't just accept everything they say. Instead you should post sarcastic replies on an arcade board. That's the way the antiBushes are going to stop him from winning his third term in office.

Then I hope that the whole lot of you are arrested on the basis that everyday that I come to this forum, you are all here waiting for my return, no matter how clear I make it that I'm not interested in you. Every single person here is stalking me.

I'm not. I'm stalking Ashton70. I need a cheap flight to Bermuda and I heard he's got contacts. You, I'll live without ::)

Heh, but it isn't Bush admin's fault. A previous act was amended. It already said annoy. This act just added internet to the definition of telecommunication devices. The act that was ammended was from 1934, which was amended in 1996 to add the cyberstalking stuff.
