Hi all.
What's the BEST 4-way joystick(not changeable), with the shortest throw
and fastest return-to-center?
My wife doesn't seem to think that any joystick can compete with the
arrow buttons on the PC keyboard for ladybug.
Recommendations needed!
Thanks!! :)

She might actually be right. If you think about it, people generally use 3 fingers on the cursor keys. You really can't beat that.
-
My favorite dedicated 4way is a 4way Wico leafswitch.
Second favorite is the Ms. Pac/Galaga stick.
-
An Ultimarc E-stick (Happ universal) in 4-way mode has a short throw and works great.
An original Pacman leafswitch joystick is still my favorite 4-way joystick.
-
The very shortest throw and absolute fastest return to center can be had on the Omni-Stik, with the T-Stik in a very close second. You don't have to buy the switchable model, the standard one can be put in 4-way mode by adjusting the restrictor under the panel.
Personally, I prefer the original Pac-Man stick Mark mentioned. Not as short a throw, or as fast a return-to-center, but it's what I like.
-
Yeah, but where do you find the original Pac leaf joysticks these days?
-
Well, the omni-stick doesn't fit my wife's taste, but the T-stick looks great! Where
can I buy them? ???
How about those mag-stick, with magnetic centering....are they quick?
Thanks,
Nicholas

Ebay.

has the mag-stik replaced the t-stik...?
the t-stik doesn't seem to be listed on ultimarc's website...

Yep, the mag stick is the new t stick.
-
And orange is the new pink ;D

Well put, well put...

Ponyboy still sells the T-stick. Just not the Plus version- it's the regular T-stick, and you need to be able to reach under the panel to switch it from 4 to 8 way action.
-
So, is the Mag as quick and fast as the T-stick?
And who is this Ponyboy? Does he have a webpage?

4-ways IMO... best is WICO 4-way leaf stick. Search for seller "nicade" on EBAY for NOS versions of these.

Would this joy fit my 3/4" wood CP? If so, what is the footprint of the joy? I currently have competitions and a T-Stick Plus..
I'm thinking of trying the Wico..
-
That is the correct auction. The footprint is the same as the competitions. The handle on the joy in that auction is 3.5", the one designed for metal panels. I have one mounted under 1/2" of wood and it works fine, but a little short. Recessing the top of the panel and mounting them from the top would be better.
-
argg..
I just bought that one in the auction...I guess I will need a longer shaft since I have a wood panel....
I have 2 T-sticks and a Slik-Stik ball top...
Would either of these fit into the Wico?
-
If the SlikStik shaft is for a P360, then a couple of us think it should work with a little fiddling.
-
it is indeed for a p360...
fiddling? ???

Don't worry about it. It's not that short. I use 3.5" wicos on a wood cp too. I like em low like that.

Me too.
My cab had four 3.5" Wicos in a 3/4" thick CP with a bit routed out underneath (I'd guess 1/4"). I currently have two of them in my temporary 1/2" thick CP (with no routing out) and I think they're perfect. So I wouldn't sweat it deadmoney5.
Try it out and if you decide that it's too low, buy a 4" replacement shaft from ponyboy.

Try it out when you get it- you'll see. You may need to add a washer between the e-clip and the actuator.

Mine are all WICO leaf sticks. I recessed the unit into the top of the control panel. It works just dandy. I have played them either way and it really isn't that big of a deal for play, top-mounted vs. bottom-mounted. The NOS ones are a bit stiff at first, but I suspect that you will love the feel of this 4-way.
