http://www.woot.com/
Seeing the discussion a EE was recently about Roomba (re: how old are you thread) and how it is considered by some as a technological breakthrough, I though some of you would want to order one.
Refurbished, but looks like a great price. You gotta act fast on Woot though...

Can it fetch me a beer?

Just ordered one, but it better be able to fetch a beer. Any robot that can't do that is worthless.
-
After reading the following description, who WOULDN'T want one? I still say they are mediocre vacumms tho :P And no... they won't fetch you a beer, sorry guys
"According to iRobot, "world-class roboticists created Roomba" and then "experts tested it." We take this to mean that the Roomba will almost certainly not massacre your entire family in a death orgy of inscrutable machine rage, but we regret that we cannot offer refunds in the event that it does. Hey, if you want a plantation full of robot slaves, you have to accept the risk of a bloody uprising."

No, but the new mopping version (The Scooba) will be able to clean up after your dogs spill your beer.

I've just got the most greatest idea.....
you know that BYO R2D2 you plan on doing this winter.... how about putting a mini apartment refrigerator in there.....
then you have a robot that brings you beer and keeps it cold.......
-
If it would pick up all the toys first, it would be worth buying.
-
I'm waiting for the Woomba they showed on SNL

What was that?

it's a little "personal" cleaner for woman. it cleans their "area". but only when it needs it

The "fetch me a beer function" was in the original spec for Robosapien V2. They had to take it out because it turned out the force needed to carry a 16oz can full of beer was just enough force to severly hurt a kid should the robot decide to try out the "fetch me a kid" function.
Robot that can hurt a kid but can get a beer ---- or Safe Robot with no beer fetching function
Tough call
(There is a mod on the net somewhere though to add the correct motors to get that function working again)

Doesn't anybody remember the Big Track (http://www.bugeyedmonster.com/toys/bigtrak/)? My buddy's dad used that to fetch him a beer back in 1979.
