Title: Canadian quarter mechs?
Post by: ChadTower on January 07, 2006, 02:27:28 pm

What size mechs would be appropriate for Canadian quarters?  For some sadistic reason I'm tempted to set up all my machines so they run only on Canadian quarters.

Same size as US quarters, so I don't know if you can do Canadian-only ...

Cheers.

I thought mechs work by weight?  I know US machines do NOT usually accept Canadian quarters.

Magnets pick off the Canadian quarters in US mechs.

Cheers.

You could use Looney coin mechs, but a buck a game is just not right (even when it's free).

But down here that would only be like seventy cents.   ;D

Or eighty-six  ;D ... still too much for a coin-op.

I have a couple of looney mechs that I'm happy to trade straight-up for quarter mechs ...  ::)

Cheers.

I picked up some canadian Coin Mech mechs off of eBay, and besides the magnet missing, there was a little plastic piece with a wire sticking out below where the magnet would be. I think this may check for ridges on the coin? Anyways, I couldn't get the US quarters to work until I removed it or bent the metal pin in the opposite direction.

That's interesting ... I just ran a couple of US quarters through each of my Canadian mechs (20) without problem or modification ... hmmm ....

Not sure about the ridges aspect since both quarters have 'em (although US quarters seem to be deeper).

Cheers.

Chad, just buy CDN mechs.

I tried modding american ones by removing the magnet and it's not enough. The little counter-weight has to be switched for the appropriate one.

So there are some mechs that are specifically for CDN?  That was pretty much my question.

I imagine it will be harder to find a bigass bag of Canadian quarters.   ;D

Get one of our canadian brethren to send you a big bag.  10 lbs or so should only cost $1.89 american, right???
