Title: Name that game. Space invaders variant?
Post by: Brax on January 04, 2006, 10:04:35 pm
Quite some time ago I remember playing a Mame version of a Space Invaders type game with my friends. I can't find it for the life of me now.

It looked just like Space Invaders but it was head to head. Probably a cocktail game since player 1 was on the bottom and player 2 was upside down on the top of the screen.

Anyone have any ideas?

It is called 'Space Invaders II (Midway, cocktail)'

Tetris and Demolition derby are other Games that are suited to a Cocktail setup

actually there are heaps of games suited to cocktail. you probably mean suited to 'head to head' play on a cocktail. hot shots tennis is another brilliant one (",)

I actually have a side by side cocktail setup. I like Space Invaders 2 as a head to head game because it's easy to invert the left and right on the player 2 controls.

I love playing against someone in real time. It just seems much more fun than against a computer. It's difficult to find "head to head" games that aren't totally inverted on the player 2 side though. I suppose I should have built a head to head cocktail. Maybe that can be cabinet #3. #2 is going to be a copy of 1up's cabinet..... someday.  :P

Can you use joysticks with Demolition Derby or does it need two spinners?
