Title: Monitor Burn In Question and others

I'm just getting into building my own arcade cabinet (probably bartop) and have a few questions...

1. Are the new arcade monitors made within the past few years still susceptible to burn-in?

The only reason why burn in occurs is because a game displays a repeated image which only uses specific pixels for that image. This would in turn cause a breakdown in the phosphors in the CRT and would "burn in" the image. Since you are using MAME, I'm sure a screen saver will prevent it. Instead of purchase an arcade monitor, I would suggest using a 19" or 21" multisync computer monitor because it's much more cheapier than an arcade monitor and probably more reliable.

thanks for the reply but that didn't really answer the question. I know what burn-in is and that old CRTs were susceptible to it (and new plasmas) but I want to know if the remakes of the old arcade monitors can still get burn in.

Already decided on an arcade monitor btw..computer monitor just doesn't look right even with scan lines

Pretty much ANY CRT monitor will be prone to burn in.

AT work, we have a CRT monitor attached to a high-volume printer (Which made me wonder. If we're already paying close to 1/4 Million bucks for a printer, why not stick and LCD monitor onto it  :P ). This monitor (Despite having a screen saver on it) started getting burn in about 9 months after installation. This SVGA monitor is 2002 model with a touch screen attached to it.

No CRTs are immune. Muhahahaha!  ::)

Oh and congrats on yuor choice of Arcade moniotor over crappy-unauthentic PC (yeah! That's right  ;D ) monitor.

As long as you don't leave the monitor on with the same image displaying for hours on end, burn-in will not be an issue.

Thanks for the reply...it was my understanding modern pc monitors (CRT) were not prone to burn in...then again I haven't tried leaving on my monitor for 9 months yet.
