Title: Cropping Artwork for vertical Games...
Post by: Sinner on January 04, 2006, 03:08:38 pm
Does anyone know of an application that will crop MAME artwork, so that vertical games have the free space on the sides of the screen filled up with a portion of their bezel artwork? (Does that make sense?)
I'm not sure if each bezel needs to be customized manually, or if an application does the cropping.
Thanks for the help...

Matt

I've always wondered the same thing.

How would you get a vertical game to scale to the height of the screen while still showing the artwork on the sides?

I don't think the game scales at all...I would assume that the game would stay the same, but you would change the artwork to be just on the sides, and change the mask to fit top to bottom vertically...
I haven't tried it yet though, so don't take my word as fact...

I made a hack a couple of years ago that I never updated as the artwork stuff changed in mame :(  I think there are derivative mames out there that have a hack like this.

You have to compile your own mame (which isn't hard) but I found one here.

Otherwise you could manually eidt the artwork files.

yes I'd like to know a way to do this too.

on a 4:3 tv at 640x480 the artwork only fills the aspect ratio of the game.  I'd like the artwork to fill 640x480 and crop the aspect ratio of the game area.  basically fill in the black bars on the sides of verticle games
