What do you guys think about these ads? I just got a 1.5 PSP and was thinking of getting some emus and roms to play on it. These ads are all over the place on Craigslist..... The question is do you think its safe to buy from these guys or could it be a scam trying to get people busted? I just wanna enjoy some old school console games.
Here are some links:
Links deleted by saint: No ROMs links here please. Read the rules - thanks.
5. Nothing illegal! Do I even need to explain this one? Need a ROM to repair an arcade board you own? Fine to talk about. Need a ROM to complete your MAME collection? Don't bother to post here. If someone posts such a request, please don't answer it -- no direct answers, no hints, no private messages.

Why not just download the roms and emus for free?
-
Legality and morality aside...why on earth would you spend money on that!?!! It's just silly.
These roms are all over the internet, and very easy to locate and download if you chose to do so. Don't give people money for this crap.
go to PSPupdates.com and get all the emulators you coudl ever want. If you already have console roms, they'll work on the PSP. There is also hundreds of great homebrew programs to run. You can also convert any videos you want with free programs.
And isn't PAYING for PIRATED PSP games kinda stupid... I mean... just go buy a few games if you want to spend money.
-
Well first of all I do see your point, to a point. My internet connection sucks its not cable or dsl so Downloading them off the internet is outta the question. I just figured instead of wasting my time downloading all this stuff I could just pay for it. Think about it Time= Money. So you guys still didn't answer my question.... Do you think its safe?

your buying obviously illegal games from a seller on Craigslist...
No, its not safe.

What could possibly be wrong with this scenario? ::)
Before you go throwing your hard earned cash at this though, I'd like to offer you a once in a lifetime chance to buy some prime oceanfront property in North Dakota that I've got to get rid of quickly. My great great great great grandmother needs help paying her medical bills so I've got to get rid of it and am willing to accept any offer.
To assist you in coming up with the money, I'm willing to introduce you to my friend from Nigeria who is afraid to cash his lottery check because the warlords there control the bank and he thinks they'll rob him. He's willing to give you a percentage if you cash the check for him, and you can use that to buy the property I'm willing to all but give away for free.
Seriously. Something you prolly shouldn't even think twice about ::)

I've got a dollar can you just send me a handful of sand.....
-
Five dollars is the minimum investment, but on the plus side, for all that, you get 3 weeks at my timeshare with the best ocean view North Dakota can have. Get in on the ground floor while I still have a wide selection of weeks to choose from.
For the investment opportunity I have for him though, your dollar will buy a hearty laugh in your face. Cash payable up front though.

In 2001, several ESA members filed a civil action against Mr. Ponce de Leon for selling pirated game software over the Internet. As part of the settlement that was reached in that case, Mr. Ponce de Leon apologized in writing for his game piracy activities. However, soon after entering into the settlement agreement, Mr. Ponce de Leon again began pirating business and entertainment software, which led to this criminal case.
The ESA is the U.S. association dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of the companies publishing interactive games for video game consoles, handheld devices, personal computers, and the Internet. ESA members collectively account for more than 90 percent of the $7.3 billion in entertainment software sales in the U.S. in 2004, and billions more in export sales of entertainment software. You guys are funny..... What would we do without your sarcasm?? :police:
-
Probably not smile as much.
Or remain upset and beat the dog, wife, kids, friends, etc.

Eff the dog, wife, kids, and friends. They stabbed a baby.
-
I heard they stole intellectual property stuff. Stab 'em twice.

I heard they stole intellectual property stuff. Stab 'em twice.
and then they charged money for the illegally gotten wares. Stab 'em thrice

And trademarked those wares to "save" them from other nefarious doodz.
A fourple stabbing!

OK guys I just need some honest advice.... My question is if these guys selling these DVD's on craigslist were :police: cops or any kind of law enforcement, wouldn't they have to reveal it if asked? If they didnt isn't that considered entrapment? And before we start flaming the newbie (me) or fill the thread with useless comments, lets take a look at this forum and the members. If it wasn't for piracy and other illegal forms of activity would we even be here discussing emus and Roms? It was those same methods that made it possible for you to enjoy Pacman and various other games in emus, lets face the facts and not be hypocrites. How many of you are typing responses and stuff on Pirated XP Os's? How many of you actually own (there are exceptions to every rule) even ten of the actual arcade machines that you play on Mame? Dont forget to anwer my question....Please!! ;)
-
In generally law enforcement agencies are more interested in those distributing the illegal files then they are in those who receive the illegal files, so most likely you will be fine. Since you are buying illegal software, there is no way to be sure you won't get in trouble, if you want it bad enough you're just going to have to roll the dice and hope for the best.
-
so is it still more illegal to download files then to stab stuff?

It doesn't really matter. Its a stupid idea to buy stolen games on Craigslist... cops or no cops.
And before we start flaming the newbie (me) or fill the thread with useless comments, lets take a look at this forum and the members.
You obviously haven't been here long... we never think twice before flaming people... newbs or not... its in our nature :)

While this is a very good point, and what I say next is really only a moral debate.... there is a large difference between pirating a 30 year old version of an arcade game that you could not regularly play otherwise.... and a PSP game that just came out two weeks ago.
IP is IP... but you are in a completely different zone of piracy. You're taking money out of game developers mouths this very instant. While Space Invaders is still the IP of someone, playing the game in MAME, IMHO, does not hurt the property owners nearly as much as stealing a new PSP game does.

1. Maybe.
2. IANAL, but I think your offer to buy 'em isn't considered entrapment
3. Not a question, but I'll answer it anyway - filling threads with useless comments - If you didn't expect this, you haven't been paying attention.
4. Yes. Yes we would.
5. I don't vouch for anyone else, but you must think because you have a pirated copy of XP that it somehow means I didn't pay for mine. You would be wrong. I suspect for a large number of people, you would be wrong.
6. Quite a few here. Also, there are folks here who don't use MAME with roms they don't own. I know I just probably blew your mind with that statement, but starting with the assumption that everyone is doing something illegal doesn't make your question any less immoral or open to ridicule.
Since you obviously can't glean any wisdom from humor, PDB is right. You're a dunce for PAYING for pirated games that you could buy legally at some store. It's not right that you should download them for free, but it certainly is far less retarded than the logic in his statement, which you seem to think isn't worth reading. Both of his posts re: your asinine question have answered in the exact amount of detail needed to give you all pertinent points to make a decision.
Now stop telling us we're flaming you. If we were, you might actually feel shame and ignorance. The humor involved in what you consider "useless" posts is required due to the glaringly obvious answer given to you twice now. We simply won't stop because you ask "pretty please stop poking fun at my goofy question.
You're not the boss of us. ;D

Come on guys. Hey Pointdablame what you are saying would basically equal saying "Its OK to steal that old car because its older, but its not OK to steal a newer one because the owner might lose out on more money." If you really wanna get into morals; stealing is stealing period don't try to justify it saying ignorant stuff like that. And yes I obviously haven't been here long that's why I called myself a newbie. But all that aside thanks for the advice at least youre posts arent useless.
Hey at least Pointdablame has given me some usefull advice but you DrewKaree post nothing but garbage, I have never seen you post something useful and do you not know how to read? Did you not read the part where I said there are exceptions to every rule. I didn't say everybody had pirated xp copies did I? Once again with the comment you made about Mame and Roms I didn't say everyone was using Roms they didn't own did I? You're also not the boss of me either.
-
No piracy. No ROMz. No Warez. It's not a difficult bloody concept.
