Title: My first cab finally finished
Post by: finsailor on January 02, 2006, 08:49:45 pm
What a relief,

I have been struggling with the monster in my garage for almost two years, but finally got it to stage 1, which is a playable cab.

And what do I find out? Only an endless stream of upgrades in front of me.

A thousand thanks to Byoac and Mame

that looks well worth all the effort you made,
cab looks great, is there a glassin front of the monitor or have you done it adifferent colour on the inside???(near the bezel)

what have you used for the foot plate???

Yes it's a glass in front of the monitor and a cardboard bezel mockup.

I bought an old nonfuctional cab (smelled like an old barn for a long time:-) stripped it down, .... same old story ...
The glass came with the cab. It does have a couple of scratches, but they are not noticeable.
It also had a transformer and a coindoor.

The footplate was 2 x 3/4 inch thick, but when I removed the front, it broke and looked ugly. I took the other 3/4 plate off and put a left over piece of flashing on top of it.

I have (12v automotive) lights on top and underneath the cab,
5.1 speakers waiting for the jukebox solution and
a button powered keyboard tray opening system, powered by a 12v motor.

My 21 inch Silicon Graphics display broke during freezing and extreme heat in the garage. Well, it works but has an hourglass distortion. The particular monitor adjustment doesn't work.

Now I'm pondering if I should replace it or not and if yes, should it be a tv,....

oh now i see the light under the cab looks great, must say it is a very good job, push button keyboard tray another good idea.....
well if you cant make ur mind up about using a t.v or monitor, just do what i do, the first one that comes up on sale or is a bargain use that one, and this way when you do take the other one out you can sort out the bezel as well ;)

The lights look nice in the dark. They can be made to pulsate with sounds or as always on solid lights.

My new years party was a success, everybody liked my cab, eventhough there is a lot room for improvement.

Next feature will be Stepmania, but I'm not very good at linux. my friend has to visit and help me to get it up and running.

Then a new hard drive and somekind of jukebox sw.

And a nice frontend to show mame, stepmania, browser, ...
maybe MythTV (I havent seen any other that might work like that).
