Title: Aw, man
Post by: ChadTower on January 02, 2006, 11:00:20 am

So, it's my last day of my first paid vacation time in years... and my wife declares this morning "Your mother is coming to watch the kids - you and I are going to see Memoirs of a Geisha."

Damn.

Tell your wife she's going to have to put out if she expects you to take her to the movies....

Memoirs of a Geisha was a fantastic book.  I was initially really excited for the movie because Steven Spielberg had picked up the rights to it.  But at the last minute another project came up that he wanted to do and me turned Geisha over to that asshat who directed Chicago.  Chicago was so bad that I had virtually no hope for Geisha to turn out well, and the reviews seem to bare that out.  It's getting something like 30% at Rotten Tomatoes.

I find the best way to make a movie is to add lots of nudity  ;D

So just go, don't stress.

Then in a couple of days declare "my mother is coming to watch the kids - you and I are going to see some sleazy strippers do cool things with ping pong balls while I fondle you in the back row."

Relationships are all about giving & taking.

Go touch your feminine side.  This is a conversation among men.

Could have been worse, I guess... awesome scenery, two hot Asian chicks I've always liked from martial arts movies... at least it wasn't a Jennifer Aniston or Lopez movie.

I like Jennifer Aniston/Lopez movies.  I just can't watch them without the sound turned way down.

Neither can act worth a damn, neither has any charisma, and both are way past their prime.

I heard worse things about Instant Karma.

Well, we all shine on, or whatever the hell that hippy was whining about.

Did someone say something about a feminine side?

You READ THE BOOK.

Come back when that is no longer true and try again.

He's not getting it.  Hit him in the head with the book.  Learning through osmosis.  I've heard it's a valid teaching tool.  Or valid for teaching tools.  I should start paying more attention.  Those books hurt.

A person's insides are more absorbant than their skin.  I find that osmosis is faster if I insert the material into a person directly.

Is that where the phrase "Rectum?  Durn near KILT 'IM!" comes from?

No, that comes from Scottish shepherds.

I read the book because I wanted to and am secure in my manhood.  Your manhood was threatened by the movie, though.  Yet you saw it.  And liked it.

I didn't say I liked it, I just said it wasn't as bad as anticipated.  I had anticipated a total crapfest chick flick and this one had good scenery.

Was a bit annoying when after all that happened to the chick she still got what she wanted in the end.  Even in tragic slavery/abuse/war movies they have to wrap up in a tidy happy ending.  That is stupid.

I was hoping in the end she'd just be SOL.  That is how life works.

So there's no gratuitous nudity then?

It's rated PG-13

and the only PG-13 movie that I recall having nudity was Doc Hollywood

It used to be that PG-13 could get you some titties, but not in today's world.

It used to be that $10 would, too.  Must be inflation.

Ironic - I always thought inflation and titties were a brilliant combination.

Jennifer Aniston & Jennifer Lopez are (still) both incredibly attractive woman and are not past their prime.

I can't believe anyone would would say otherwise.

IRL, they are not.

On a 15 foot screen I demand top 1% beef and they are far past 1%.

I havent seen the movie, but I read this review that summed it up exactly how I imagined.  In summary it was:

Memoirs is the nearly the same movie as Showgirls, only without the nudity and laughably bad acting/dialogue.  These have been replaced by fancy costumes and sets.

Now if only they coulda combined the 2 by adding the nudity back in.  (Ziyi Zhang, and Gong Li respectively)  I would go see that.
