Title: Game Works arcade in Michigan (mods please move)
Post by: SuperGunGuru on January 01, 2006, 11:09:45 pm
Today me and two friends went to the Great Lakes Crossing mall here in Michigan to check out "Game Works." In short I had a lot of fun, in fact it was the most fun I had at an arcade in a long time. The majority of the machines were of couse big simulation type games. They had some classics but all of them were in generic, homemade cabinets (they were fun though and I set high score on Asteroids  8)). It was an interesting place because you had a bar in there too and plenty of seating to sit and watch the football games (the Lions haven't given me much to watch this year  :P) It's a place I would recommend checking out if you had a chance. They had one game called "Sky Pirates" where you strap into a chair along with up to 3 other players and you face this giant screen. You use your joystick to control the movement of yout hot air balloon. The object is to move your on screen balloon above the other player's balloon so you can drop down on their's and pop it. The chairs you sit in follow the vertical movement of your balloon and it was fun to be at the top of this thing and try to look down to see where my friends' had their balloons at, though the saftey bar kept me from gettin a good look down. You could then hit the free fall button and drop quickly to try and pop their balloon. While arcades as we knew them are a dieing breed, it's nice to see places like this that still survive with the changes to arcades.

My wife and I are in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic right now visiting her family for the holidays and we went to Mega Centro (the biggest mall in the carribean) and there was a GameWorks there that had just opened. It was pretty fun although overpriced and there wasn't any really new games. (The newest games were probably 4 years old). Only classics there were Moon Patrol and a Galaga/Ms. Pac reunion cocktail and the Moon Patrol looked like it was in a homemade generic cab. Good food too!

I was in Punta Cana a short while ago, man I would have KILLED for an arcade while I was there :)  A guy can only take so much of beautiful beaches and free booze...I wanted a dank room where I could spend some quality time with a ms pac.  ;)
