Hi,
I have a small issue with Neo geo roms not loading in mamewah. I have the roms and they work perfectly fine with Neorage. All of them. I also have neogeo.zip which is the BIOS file. When mamewah generates the list, they all come up in the list as well(Im using ROM vs List generation method)!! And to make it even more bizarre; some NEogeo roms start up without any problem whatsoever. Lets take the KOF series as an example; KOF 94 works, 95 does not, 96 does, 97 does not 98 does not etc. Same goes for other NeoGeo Roms. When I load the non-working roms it tells me there is an error in mame.ini and more specifically in lines 49 (external app settings) and up. Mamewah then goes on to unzip the rom but in the end reverts back to the game selection screen. THe errors that mamewah indicates have to do with the external settings...something in these settings must instruct Mamewah NOT to load certain ROMsets? Now for the killer; I have no external settings as you can see below;

scratch that. I went into DOS and went to see what the error is/was;
When I type the following in the DOS line;
c:\mame\mame.exe KOF2002 -verifyroms > C:\Mame\files\verify
mame goes through the entire mame.ini file and says;
error: unknown option emulator_title on line 3 of file mame.ini
ignoring line
and it then goes through the entire mame.ini file in that fashion.

I am still struggling here. Please help if somebody has a clue as to why my Neo Roms dont work.... ??? ??? ???
-
When I load the non-working roms it tells me there is an error in mame.ini and more specifically in lines 49 (external app settings) and up.
It is referring to the mame.ini file that is in the mame folder. When updating mame you should always regenerate a new mame.ini fle and then move your setting over from the old mame.ini file. What version of Mame are you using: Have you upgraded recently?
Just an FYI,
John

Hello John,
yes, I am using the latest version of Mame. I have tried reinstalling mame several times but to no avail. Some Neo Roms work fine (metal slug 2 for example). I am thinking it might be because of the difference in Romdump method between NeoRageX and Mame. CLRMame is very complicated though.... any other suggestions maybe?
Thanks!

Yes, get a good/current set of Mame roms.

update;
I have scanned all my files with CLRMAME and apart from the obvious ROMS which I dont have (such as CHD images), ALL my romsets are complete and accounted for!!! I have made non-merged sets from all of my ROM zips which basically puts ALL the files you need per game in each Rom zip. It costs some space but hey, it should work, right?
Unfortunately...it doesnt. Some games don't come up no matter what I try. See above for my mame and mamewah settings. Does anyone have any clue what the problem might be??
Thanks again. THank heaven this forum exists! :-*

Why is MAME reading your MAMEWAH mame.ini?
MAME has it's own mame.ini file and it doesn't include the words "emulator_title".
-
Hi. THat is a good point your bringing up. So;
you launch mamewah. Mamewah then reads its own ini file in the ini folder (\mamewah\mame.ini)? once Mamewah starts and you launch a game, mame chooses its own ini (\mame\mame.ini). I always thought these were the same? Stupid of me.
So where can I change these settings then (the "real" mame. ini settings? It seems there is a conflict somewhere.
Thanks!!!!!

Go to your "c:\mame"
find the mame.ini or mamepp.ini if you have the pentium optimized version.
it should look like this:

Try this:
1. Make a new folder and copy of your mame folder's contents. Don't copy folders only the files under "c:\mame"
2. Delete the the files in "c:\mame" that you just made a copy of.
3. download and open the zipped mame file. copy the contents of the zipped file to your "c:\mame" folder. remember you do not need to copy the folders contained in the zip file.
4. goto the "Start Button" the "Run" type "CMD" then hit enter.
5. goto the "c:\mame" folder and run "mame -createconfig". This will create your "mame.ini" file
6. now edit the .ini to point to the correct directories and set your other options.
now go and try running the rom using the command line method. If that works then try mamewah.
