With all of the questions I've been asking for the past couple of months, some of you may be extremely surprised to find that I've completed the build of my Control Panel and nearly all the wiring (holding off on the LEDs until I am willing to commit that kind of time, but they're in place).
As of right now, I'm able to play some ROMs and I'm pretty pleased with myself.
However, I've noticed that on some games, absolutely none of the controls appear to be configured correctly.
As an example, a game like Crazy Climber--which requires only 2 joysticks to play--would pretty much do nothing with the existing p1 and p2 joysticks.
It actually makes sense to me that the behavior is as such, but I'm at a loss as to how I would actually modify the CP configuration specifically for a single ROM and have the configuration load each time that particular game loads.
I also notice this happening on some spinner ROMs, too.
And, I'm pretty positive I've seen some threads or bits of threads on the topic so I'm also pretty sure that I'm re-hasing something that's already long since been resolved, but I'm finding that I'm not articulating my search terms well enough, so any direction is appreciated.
Thanks!

If you want to change/modify controls in a various game (rom), then you need to hit the TAB key on your keyboard and in the menu select Input (this game). You will then be able to customize the controls just for that game (rom) in particular.
You don't have to change the CP configuration. Its easier to change the inputs for any game that needs it.

Thanks; just found this out--and that's yet another button I need to add!
Thanks!

I would suggest NOT to add it as a button. During your setup of the roms, you will need it. After that, it would be very rare that you will need to use it. When necessary, just plug in a keyboard amd make changes that way. Avoid clutter and more work.... ;D

Roughy:
Mame has a weird keyboard default for games that utilize two joysticks like Crazy Climber, Robotron, Smash TV, etc.
When you hit the TAB key, go to the one for ALL GAMES and then select the Player 1 Controls.

When you hit the TAB key, go to the one for ALL GAMES and then select the Player 1 Controls. In there you will see an option for Player 1 Joystick 2 which you can just map to the Player 2 joystick 1.
Make sense? or more confusing? Sometimes it's just easier to launch each game, hit TAB, and then map the controls for This Game. At least that way you know they will be right.
I didnt realize that was in there. Thanks Mark.

Not sure what encoder you're using, but the shift functions on the I-Pac/J-Pac are insanely useful for TAB and whatnot. Just the other night I added "F2" to my J-Pac, I just switched over tokens, and I've found myself needing to change credit options for a few games recently.
