I have a Wico 8 way leaf switch joystick. I would like to turn it into a 4 way. I understand that all I need to do this is get the 4-way actuator.
I believe that the 8-way is less common than the 4-way so if you have a 4-way in good condition and you would like an 8-way, please let me know and we can trade actuators.
My Wicos are authentic and NOS, i.e. never been used.

I'm afraid you've got it wrong. They both use the SAME actuator.
What you want to do is swap an 8-way base for a 4-way base. The only part that needs to change hands is the black (or grey, whichever you've got) plastic body of the stick. Everything else is the same.

Ah, thank you. I dunno what I'm talkin about.
I bet you've got a 4-way base Kremmit, you interested in a trade?
-
I think the source of his confusion is that there IS a square actuator that makes hitting the diagonals extremely easy. You must not use this actuator with the 4-way base.
-
RayB- That square actuator is for microswitch-based Wicos, like those ones I sent you for your firetop handles way back when.
Sorry, Timoe- I've got plenty of 8-way bases, but no spare 4-way ones. Sometimes you can get somebody who wants a NOS 8-way to order one of the NOS 4-ways on ebay, and then swap the joystick bodies.

Kremmit, actually they do use two different size actuators. The 4-way actuators are a bit smaller then the 8-way actuators. The hole in both actuators are obviously the same size since they both have to slide onto the same size shaft but if you look at the actual thickness of a 4-way you'll notice that the plastic is thinner making the overall o.d. of the actuator smaller. I've seen *many* Wico 4-way sticks with

You learn something new every day. Every 4-way I've got came to me used, so I never knew. I'll definately be interested in measurements and pics, but let's start a new thread in Main for that, instead of crapping up Timoe's thread any more.
