I have an original model playstation, and i would loike to play game backups on it. i dont wanna buy a modchip, as i am too lazy to open up the playstation and solder it, although i am perfectly capable of it. i know there are CDs you can buy that you swap in and out to allow backups to play, but there's gotta be a way to make one of these CDs yourself. any ideas?
-
How would you load the CD you make yourself.... if the PSX can't read burned discs?? ;)
You can't do it. Your best bet is to try to find an old cheat device or "mod clip" that attaches to the serial port of older PSX models. You can run backups using those. I have one, but you can't have mine lol
-
I have the breaker pro which allows you to do the swap method and it works pretty good. The reason you cant make it yourself is that either the breaker pro disk or the modchip give the code to the playstation so it thinks it is an authentic disc being played.

Yeah. Get a plug-modchip (http://www.consoleplus.com/ps/plugmod.htm). It plugs into the parallel port. No openning the PSX and no soldering. No swapping or boot disks required. Easy sleazy.
Bet you can find 'em cheap nowadays.

I don't mean to hijack your thread but what about HD Advance 3.0? Would I (we) need anything else apart from HD Advance 3.0, a PS2 network adapter and a maxtor HDD to back up and play my games? My PS2 has no mods at all.
-
Geezus, i could buy a game breaker disc for 5 bucks cheaper than that plug! :o I guess the life of a cheap bastard is not an easy one. :'( I wouldnt want a plug anyways b/c they arent compatible with psones, should i choose to get one. Franco, you can have this thread, im done with questions. thanks guys :)

He was asking about the original PSX.. not the PS2
But no... that's all you would need.

I guess they are getting hard to find now so prices must be going up. I did a little searching and can't find any of those plugs out there for cheap.
There does appear to be several boot disks out there that do the same thing. I've never looked into 'em because they didn't exist when I installed my Stealth chip.
Good luck!

:-[ Ooops, my bad. Must be all this Christmas 'spirit'. (i.e sambuca)

Mr Biggs, try to find a PSXchange 2 disk, it's all I ever needed for my PSOne.
They used to go for around $20 bucks including the cheaters you need to trick your PSOne while you swap out disks. Good Luck!

You can do the spin up trick with any old ps1 game..
Boot PS1, right before the PS logo goes away snag the disc out and drop your burnt game in..
After you get the hang of it, its not to bad actually, and its free

I'm guessing you do this without a top? And snag the disc while its spinning? (ouch) Any other details are appreciated.

Nevermind, googling found the instructions. Doesn't sound to appealing given all the drawbacks/caveats. Modchip is the way to go.

For clarification: PSXchange2 does not use a spin-up trick exactly as soapboy describes. The lid remains open using the spring or tab supplied, you insert the PSX 2 disk, turn PS1 on, wait, then the drive stops and the screen tells you to switch disks. No grabbing spinning disks. Then you can close or leave the lid open as you wish. Simple, no-soldering or opening you PS1. Out of hundreds of games that I have only 2 or 3 would not work with PSX2 disk. Plus you can use Game Shark/Action Replay codes if desired. This was an easier option for me since I can't solder for crap and didn't want to ruin my PS1 and at the time it was cheaper than having someone else modchip it for me.

can you get me the link for those instructions? i googled"playstation spin up trick" and all i got was crap about tony hawk games. thanks.

Actually it is a PIC12C508 8-pin CMOS Microcontroller with its own programable memory.
You do realize that a PS1 modchip is like a 10 cent EPROM don't ya?
