A game I really used to dig. Now I can play it again but I just can't get past the high jump.
I jump but always land on the bar. Anybody share the secret?
-
if you run into the pole 2 times in a row then make it over the third try, a mole will pop up and give you bonus points
-
I give up. Nothing seems to work.
I used to be able to make the high jump in the arcades, but not anymore. >:(

I've seen the mole! Happened to me only once, back in the day.
Others I have personall seen or done:
In the javelin, if you make your spear shoot off the top of the screen, it hits a turkey or something like that and falls back down with it impaled.
That almost sounds dirty....

Hey you guys. Its absolute vital info such as this which makes me wish I was more an arcade kid in my youth. I was only born in 82 in the UK so I have never had as half as much exposure to arcades as I would have liked. Normally the most action (arcade or otherwise) that I was likely to see was after swimming on a saturday. If I had saved 20p some how (or had managed to find one in the changing room locker mechs) then I had the ultimate pleasure of playing about one three games (in rotation mind, not in my wildest dreams would I have three seperate machines to choose from). They tended to be SF2, Bucky O'Hare, Jail Break, and im sure they had a centipede once. The only other exposure I had was when I used to go on holiday with my parents where they had (for me) an arcade heaven. My Caddilacs and Dinosaurs obsession began there as well as my love for games like D&D, Wildwest Cowboys, Hard Drivin, Operation Thunderbolt and Hang On amongst others.
Sorry bout the randon rant (im not pished, honestlry offrisher) but I wish I had been more of an 80's arcade kid, oh well its probably a good thing otherwise my obsession would probably have taken a hell load of cash more than it has at present.
[/halfcut selfpitying rant]

I've found that jumping higher tends to work better. A lot of people don't think of that at first, but it's true. It's not foolproof, since you COULD be a determined fool, but it tends to work more often than not. What other game do you need tips for? ;) ;D
-
OH, before I forget this one...I ALWAYS forget this one, and I bet you'll ask after I've forgotten....in Pac Man, eat all the dots without getting eaten by the ghosts.
Works every time it's done ;D

you just have to tap the run button to start, then just before the bar give the jump button a quick tap to start your ascent, then i like to rapidly rap the run button, i think it makes me go higher, then at the apex, quickly tap the jump button again, to go horizontal and then a quick hold of the jump button to kick out the legs and clear the bar horizontaly, my best jump is 2.44m, im the hyper olympic king at work :) ive made it into round 4, thats wrapping it 3 times ;D *beams with nerdish pride*

good luck! takes a few tries, lots of tries for some ppl :P that's one of my best events, im decent at hammer throw, really quite good at hurdles and the 100m, ok at long jump and crappy at javelin, 86m is my best

Let me know how they worked out for you, and if you get better, make sure to pass this cherished bit of wisdom along to others so they too can feel better about themselves. ;D

Tim is thinking Drew is either really hates Hypersports/ Track & Field or he's really bad at it :D

Hurdles. Hate 'em. The high jump is a piece of cake compared to the hurdles. Not the first run-through. That one, they make it cake to give you some semblance of hope.
What are the other "versions" of this game? I seem to remember MAME having like 3 different versions of this. Do they all have the same events?
And I stick by my high jump and Pac Man theories. I have yet to personally see the Pac Man theory defeated, so I'm going with that one being fool proof.
-
The high jump is all about timing. Jump when you're fairly close to the bar but not too close. Give it a second or two to gain height, then start your descent as his legs are moving up. It's super easy once you get the timing down. Easy peasy Japanesey.

:o
Hurdles are a piece of cake if you use the "One-Button-Index-and-Middle-Finger" technique to run. Right hand on the right run button, bounce each finger on the sides of that one button, left hand on the action button. You'll smoke the hurdles.
-
Any technique other than removing the event altogether doesn't eliminate the fact that the hurdles still suck. Show me the "give the hurdles the middle finger to remove the event" technique, and I'll amend that statement. They suck-diddly-uck.
-
Sounds like you suck.

Sounds like you suck.
At most things, yes. It doesn't stop me from telling you how bad they are and making you unable to resist reading my drivel. Sounds like you suck at not caring what I say.
That makes you teh ghey.

If I remember right, you want to start the jump so the vertical dashed line is between the 'm' and 'i' in the 'Konami' banner in the background. Press jump once to start the jump and get some height. Once you are high enough, press and briefly hold down the jump button again to move to the right and finally tap once more to clear your legs over the bar. I didn't think that mashing the keys in this event makes you go any higher, just like in the hammer throw.
-
I have exact same problem. Did you solve it?

Just in case anyone else looks, it seems like the technique is jump pretty vertical and then when the Legs go up use the action button to move over the bar.
It felt like hitting keys during jump made me able to complete higher jumps however it was not obvious on screen so could have been my imagination!

However I still haven't figured out why the records for running and swimming never save in any of the various versions of this game.
