those look cool but i like the ones sears sold that you could actually play. they were just handheld game ports to a watch. if i can find my old sears catalogue i'll post some pics.
-
Oh dang! That's rad! I have a blue fossil rolling tic, and if these are anything like that, they will look great in real life. As of right now, I'm going to getting one of these.
-
OMFG those are badass, I am seriously thinking of getting one. I like the colored Asteroids one best, but Asteroids is not a color game so the authenticity freak in me can't live with that. :) But the Centipede one is calling me... hmmmmmmmmmmm... THANKS for posting these!
Eric.

I don't like them. It's like they printed a simple design loosely similar to classic games and pasted them into an existing watch.
They should have gotten much more creative...
(And why does Centipede have 2 spiders??)
-
The limited edition one (not pictured in thread, click on the link) with the gameplay acition is really cool. I won't be spending $130 on it though.
-
I used to have a pacman watch in grade 4. We weren't supposed to wear them to school. one had four directional buttons. Then later they came out with one that had a little joystick.

Goto their website and look at them, they are all, except the basic asteroids, animated.

OHH! OK I take back what I said
-
Pretty cool. There is a Fossil outlet a mile from my house, I'll see if they get them in.
-
nice. do they come in PONG?
-
Breakout is close to PONG.
-
Check them out on Ebay, you can find pretty good prices there. I mean HALF the price :)
-
Wow, now THAT is a GREAT find !!!! I am both Fossil and Atari fans from the start and what a marriage between the two this is !
My current watch is a Fossil strap with the big turning second digits on the screen, so I already love the moving background concept.
Actualy being able to play the game is no issue to me at all....would be flimsy anyway.
The Limited Edition version not pictured will definitly be mine very soon ! My wife still owes me a birthday present, but I couldn't think of anything, this will be it !!
Can't make out if it is the original Atari Fuji on top of that watch, or if it's the new style version (which would be a shame.) On the back there is also an Atari Logo and that is definitly the new one.
Anyway, ordering it now :)
O, and I don't want people saying it sucks because it's not original vector graphics :):)

Indeed, but can someone explain how it is possible that these can be offered for half the price when this is a limited edition item ( I mean 2000 pcs for the US, 5000 total worldwide ?!!?!?!?!)
I'm leaning to buying on through ebay because the difference is so big AND the people on EBAY are willing to ship outside the US (I'm in Europe) contrary to the on-line Fossil store.

Check these links out for additional pictures of the limited edition Asteroids:

Very very nice ! Nice box ! Watch and box all done very tastefully. My only "complaint" is the new-style Atari Logo on the back of the watch, but what the heck. The logo on the front looks to be the original !!!
There's also an Asteroids sticker included it seems:

All in all, it will be hard to actualy unpack and use this...will be a collector's item for sure ;)
To Eric: The Limited Edition IS black and white and much more beautyful to my taste.
To Ray: The Centipede does have only 1 spider, check out the animated pictures on the fossil site. I never liked Centipede though. Even though I got 4th in the national championships in 1983 ;)

Cool Level42 when you get yours please post some good pics here. And don't stick it on a shelf as a "collectible," you should wear it and enjoy it. Don't let the "Limited Edition" B.S. fool you. You will always be able to get another one of these. The whole concept of manufactured collectibility is a scam. I am not saying they are lying about the production numbers, but there aren't necessarily 5000 people in the world dying to have one of these. I mean, I would have thought BYOAC'ers would be the perfect customers for this sort of item, and the total lack of enthusiasm in this thread goes to show how poorly these will sell. That's why they are available on Ebay for Buy-It-Now $69! So like I said, when you get it, rip it open (carefully, I agree the packaging is cool and should definitely be saved) and wear it and have fun with it.
Eric.

Well I'm bidding (netrunner2) so don't get in a bidding war with me!
Thanks for posting, these rock!
-
Thanks Eric, no worries, I will definitly wear it. I never saw the use of buying something like this and putting it up a shelf for collecting sake.
But I will keep the box and other stuff of course.
Not sure about the 5000 number. On 6 billion people worlwide, this seems very limited indeed ;)
Anyway, I don't really care about the collectability. I love the watch, the idea, and the very tasteful work by Fossil. So glad the Fuji on the watch is the original. Even the Fuji's on the box are the original's. Only the tags have the new ugly style logo...anyway, hope it arrives soon, and I'll put up some pics ;)
I bet first thing people will be saying is, can I play a game ? Then I will say yes and let them figure out the controls :P
And don't worry about me bidding, I opted for "Buy it now". The price seemed very reasonable 69,95 USD compared to the online Fossil store.
-
$70?! Perhaps I will get one sooner than later.
-
Received my Limited Edition Asteroids Atari Fossil watch a couple of hours ago, and it looks as great as the pictures promissed.
However, all the Atari Fuji's are the new style which is a shame a bit, but otherwise this watch is great.
Didn't expect to have it before new year's but the Ebay seller was great and sent very quick. Saved a lot of cash compared to the Ebay store, and especialy compared to European prices !
I saw the Centipede watch in shops here, no price tags though....
O, I've got nr.4193, so if you find one with that number, we were fooled ;)
-
Not sure about the 5000 number. On 6 billion people worlwide, this seems very limited indeed
minus a couple million for those who dont have taste, a few million for the next gen only video gamers, and a few billion for the masses who never bought a video or played one in their lives.
though my question is level42 how the animations look on the watch?
-
Yes, how does it look? I hope it's smoother than the animation. How does it compare to the scrolling tic watch (which looks flawlessly smooth)?
-
I have said it before and I will say it again. A game watch you can't play is like that girl that "just wants to be friends."
-
That was my first thought. but i doubt any watch company would reissue the playable ones or make new ones. though someone could porbably make one from spare parts it wouldnt be cheap or efficent.
-
Well the animation is more extensive than the picture on-line. The ship is moving sideways, contrary to what you would normaly do in Asteroids (at least my stategy is to only rotate and move as little as possible...)
However, with an LCD screen rotating the ship is impossible to animate. Also the ship is never in the center of the "screen" because naturaly that is where the hands are connected.
The animation lasts for about 13 seconds then repeats. You can also select to "freeze" the action, although you do not freeze the moment the "game"is in at that time, but it switches to a predifened set up of the screen. The score is starting with 0 and the ship actualy shoots a couple of asteroids and scores points up to 450 when the ship hits an Asteroid. The number of ships in the bottom stays at thee however and the animation is repeated.
Compared to the picture on the Fossil site there are more differences: there are more Asteroids on screen all the time on the real watch, and the picture it's only one. On the watch it's minimum 2, but most of the time 4/5.
Also some asteroids on the picture are "filled in" (white), on the watch they never are, so more true to the actual game.
In practice, there needs to be pretty good ambient lighting to see the animation. It's hard to see it from an angle. I don't think that's neccesarely a bad thing. Too much jumping and moving gets annoying. Now its fun to look at when you want to. It might have been nice if they had added a backlighting feature though...but would probably eat up too much batteries.
I've got a couple of female friends that I love very much, even though I can't "play" with them (OK, OK, OK I admit, there's one I'd kill for... but we're drifting off. :D) but I know what you mean. However, this watch is NOT a game watch. It's a great looking watch, with a great theme, very tastefully implemented in the motion background and packaging.
I can't see how they could have made this watch look this slick and tight, and still be able to do a SERIOUS rendition of Asteroids. Anyone who knows the physics of Asteroids ( a vector game ! ) knows it would be impossible to do a good LCD version. How would you animate the numerous randomly moving Asteroids, that you shoot, then they split up and move in all directions...etc. etc. Let alone, how could you seriously control a game on a watch ? Connect a BYOAC CP to it ? Also ship movement would be very difficult (rotate and accelarate).
However, the Break Out watch could have been done as a real game, using the dial setting wheel as a spinner :D :D :D
Anyway, I love this watch, will wear it on special occasions only, and I've had many compliments about it already, even from people who hadn't seen the animation before at all.

What a bargain ! Thought mine was pretty cheap already ;)
I love it. Wear it only on special occasions. It should have been back lit though, it's a little tough to see now, but everything else is sweet about that watch. A job well done by Fossil & Atari.

I stopped at a Fossil outlet store last weekend, and they still had Asteroids watches. They have them down to 29.95 now!
So.... I got another one.

Wanna send one to me in Australia? I would pay for all postage etc..

Has anyone seen this pong watch?

Yeah, I've been following the pong watch pretty closely, definately the coolest project I've seen in a long time. The guy who is making it is super nice too, and by the looks of his progress, super smart too...
-
I think the Atari Watches are pretty sweet. I think I might just have to go to fossil and get one - or two - or all three!

Thanks. I called the outlet store here in Williamsburg VA and they have 2 - Centipede and Breakout. They are holding them for me! No Asteroids though, they sold out a while ago - 20 bucks a piece!
-
I just got back from the Fossil outlet in WA. I bought 2 of the limited edition Asteroids watches for $29.99 each , and they still have 3 more left. The outlet is next to the Tulalip casino if anybody in the area want's to go snag one.
-
Anyone know if one of these are still available at Fossil outlets ? Note that I'm not looking for the one with the metal strap but the leather one.
