When I attach the spinner knob, it sits about 3/4" from the metal CP (presumably to accomodate a plywood CP). Is there a way to make the knob sit lower or is there any way to shorten the shaft for the knob? Damn that sounds dirty.
Thanks!

Can't remember exactly, but there are allen set screw(s) you loosten to lower the rod.

Either use washers or nylon inserts between the top of the spinner plate and the bottom of the CP to lower the spinner so that the knob is just above the CP top.
Or just find the allen set screws whammoed mentioned.

Awesome - thanks guys. I found the allen screws but man are they tight! I can't get them to budge....
Also, do you think using some strong double sided tape would hold the spinner in place? I need to mount it completely from underneath (without using the screws)..

I feel 100% certain that the double sided tape wouldn't work.
What if you took a couple of pieces of wood and notch them out and glue them to the bottom of the CP with an adhesive that will bond wood & metal. Then you can slip the spinner in from the side, and use set screws from below to push the spinner up tight against the CP bottom?
Be sure the shaft will come out or slip all the way down before gluing the wood to the CP, otherwise the spinner wouldn't slide in with the shaft sticking up.

Why can't you mount it with screws?
I attached mine to a piece of aluminum flat bar and made 4 holes in the flat bar spaced the same distance apart as joystick holes, then mounted it to my cp so the carriage bolts would line up with the joys.

I am covering my CP with a layer of vinyl and I want a clean look - there are black carriage bolts for the joysticks but nothing else. No other real reason I guess...

Gotcha...hope you find a suitable glue.

I'm thinking something like this:
