Title: How do i wire up a marquee light fixture?
Post by: 2PacMan on December 22, 2005, 11:08:07 am
I bought a Capcom bowling game and the operator capped off all the wires on the marqee light fixture.  I need to see if i can get this working.  Where at on the power supply do i hook the wires to the light fixture...i see a +5, -5, Gnd, 12, etc. on the power supply...what wires go to what terminal?

I might just end up getting a whole new light fixture from some sort of hardware store...but how do i wire this into the cabinet's power supply??

Standard fluorescent fixture?

Don't hook 'em to the PCB's power supply.

Not to sound nasty, but making a quick judgement from the question, I'd talk to an electrician or research more before attempting to wire it up.

More info on the light would be helpful to us.

Follow Ed's advice on the electrician

BUT -

fluorescent fixtures are USUALLY 120v AC and tap into the raw AC coming into the cab before it gets to the power supply.

See Bob Roberts cabinet AC wiring diagram on his website.  I don't have a link, but a search here will bring several links to it.

Thanks for the link/advice guys.  I did find that bob Roberts drawing.  It was helpful, but it doesn't show where the wires connect to the game's power supply.  It just says "attatch to AC"  well, where do you wire this in at?  Splice the power cord?  Or wire the fixture to the power supply unit?

I'll try and get some pics this weekend.

Maybe you glossed over it, but it's been mentioned already that the game's power supply is only for the circuit board. It converts AC to DC power. Light fixtures usually use AC power, like what comes out of your wall outlet.

If the power supply has a 3-prong plug then just wire a two-prong plug to the fixture and plug both the power supply and the fixture into a plug strip inside the cabinet and plug the power strip into the wall.

The way it is done in Bob Roberts diagram, he uses an A/C distribution block.
