Me and a few friends have been discussing this for a few days now. Time to put it to a vote.
Can a vampire drink zombie blood and keep living (undead)? According to my friend - in Anne Rice novels, vampires can drink other vampire blood. If that were true, then would it make sense that they could drink zombie blood also? Personally, I say that vampires drinking vampire blood is a bunch of BS. So the whole theory is pretty much out the window. At least in my mind.
And as a follow up question: Who would win in a fight between the two?

Clint eastwood

I think they could, but it would probably be like you drinking expired milk.
-
they could, but i dont think it would sustain their life. the blood is dead
-

I think Vampires would have the edge. They tend to be super strong and some of them can turn into bats and fly as well.
I guess an intelligent Zombie could wait until daylight and get the Vampires when they're at their most vulnerable but aren't Zombies by definition generally pretty stupid?
-
It's a trick question. Zombies don't have any blood.

I think we have a winner.

Anne Rice is writing Jeebus books now, which immediately disqualifies the use of her books in any such discussion.
Besides, I've only seen bits and pieces of Interview With the Vampire, and that was years ago, but didn't Tom Cruise get pwned by some corpse blood or something?
Corollary: if vampires all looked like that chick in that Underworld movie I keep seeing previews for, I'd have something else they could drink...
Corollary 2: unfortunately they don't exist - all you get is those ugly-ass goth chicks.

I've never heard of vampires feeding on other vampires until someone said that it happens in Anne Rice novels (and I still don't buy it. Just because she writes about vampires doesnt make her an expert). That just seems rediculous to me. I mean for starters, vampires hearts don't beat. The blood cells don't take in oxygen from the lungs since vampires don't breath. So vampires have dead blood - that doesn't circulate through the body. It doesn't run through the veins because the heart isn't doing it. Plus - if another vampires bites another - the blood isn't going to do anything but drip out a little bit. Again - no heart pumping it around. The only way the vampire could get the blood out would be do actively suck it out - and that would be a heck of a lot of work. Escpecially since they don't have working lungs!
In all honesty - it's impossible to have anything undead. Muscles need the oxygen and blood in order to work. So you could have a vampire that just lays there and can't move. And they can't talk either because again - lungs don't work. They would basically be a vegatable. Forever. That would really suck.
Unfortunately - zombies pose the exact same problem with vampires. Dead blood with no circulation. (Yes zombies have blood. They are human after all, and it's not like the blood just magically evaporates as soon as they die).
But in order to continue the discussion - I say No. A vampire cannot suck the blood of a zombie just like a human. I also say that they can't drink other vampires blood too. I mean, they techincally could, but why drink dead blood? What would be the point?
I also say a zombie could take a vampire. Vampires are always sissy little whiney brats who like to wear dark clothes and don't do diddly squat. Zombies on the otherhand are 24/7 killing machines. "Oh, you shot me in the leg? Didn't hurt" ::munch munch:: I don't think a vampire could ever drink a zombies blood because once they got whithin arms distance, they would get torn limb from limb.

Mmmm..... Freaky Gothic chicks.

of course not that's just plain silly everybody knows that

Last time I checked an Anne Rice novel, if a Vampire drank "dead blood" (ie: any stale or old blood that wasn't fresh from an alive or currently dying victim) it would die. From memory that's how Claudia (played by the very young Kirsten Dunst) dies in the movie "Interview with a Vampire". Or it could have been one of the other vampires. I forget these details.
Supposedly vampires can feed off each other, but it is purely for erotic/masochistic value only. No life-sustaining value comes from it. They just do it for kicks.
According the the "Blade" universe, Vampires must feed on fresh blood because they can't regenerate haemoglobin (despite being able to regenerate tissue after injury, but lets not wreck a perfectly good fable), and thus die after too long without fresh blood from living creatures.
Make of that what you will. And please excuse the tragic geekiness of this post. No, I'm not some pathetic emo goth wannabe. I even have a tan! Honest!

If a vampire bites a zombie then the zombie becomes a zombire. Alternatively, if a zombie bites a vampire, the vampire turns into a vambie. Vambies and zombires are like mules, they are unable to breed so they generally keep to themselves. That's why there are so few movies about them.
Eric.

This makes the most sense to me. Which probably means that it's total gibberish.
As far as which one would win in a fight... tough to call. Zombies, as previously stated in this thread, are relentless killing machines. Vampiers, however, are far too smooth to be cornered by some lurching, slow moving zombie. Even if they did get cornered, vampires can trun into smoke and just drift away. I know they can do that, TV tells me it's true.

On and episode of tales from the crypt a vampire drinks zombie blood and they know what they are talking about. ::)

Zombies are slow, soft, and weak and vampires are effeminate namby-pamby ladies' men. My money's on the Wolfman.

Up until this moment I thought you were a reasonably not-deluded kinda guy. I have to completely reform my image of you.

I'm confused. Is that a vampire or a zombie?
Could go either way really... I'd say a 50/50 chance with a 50% chance that I'm wrong.

Dying, but still alive, yes. Dead for several hours/days, no. And disease doesn't worry them, because they can't fall ill.
And yes, I am now officially taking this far too seriously.
